Without much fanfare and absent a big kayfabe write-off, Chris Jericho departed from WWE and pro wrestling again last night (September 21, 2014) following his loss to Randy Orton at theNight of Champions pay-per-view (PPV).

He confirmed the poorly kept secret on Twitter (and with a video on the subscription-only It's a Secret app) today:

Thank you [HASHTAG]#WWEUniverse[/HASHTAG]!! See u soon! •Click here to watch the video• http://t.co/Pq4vxjLI8N pic.twitter.com/5eXsDQhE5A

Speculation, partially driven by the lack of any real innovation in character or moveset and lackluster reviews of his matches during this latest return, has been that this could be the end of the road for Y2J. A bestselling author, successful rock 'n' roll frontman and podcast host, the 43 year old legend probably doesn't need to be taking bumps to make his mortgage these days.

But, preceding and lending weight to his Twitter comments, it was on his podcast Talk is Jericho last week that he told listeners that his return to WWE would be "sooner than you think".

It would have been cool if Seth Rollins had put him out with a curb-stomp or something on Raw tonight. It could have set up a program between them for when Y2K returns later on (imagine Seth Rollins vs Chris Jericho at Wrestlemania next year with the MITB briefcase on the line... fitting since next year's Wrestlemania marks the ten-year anniversary since the first-ever MITB match took place back in '05, and Jericho was even the one who came up with the concept for the match back then), and we all know how good of a match and rivalry Jericho and Rollins could have with one another.

I'd be down for that..
Jericho v. Rollins for the Briefcase would be very intriguing IMO.. even without the case on the line I'd still be interested in that match.

Kinda sick of the come and go Jericho runs. When he goes again I hope he at least stays away long enough for me to care about another return.

I want to like this idea, I really do. But I thought Bray vs. Jericho would be awesome too. But their first match was good, 2nd was alright and the cage match was pretty average. Which is weird.

I kinda think Jericho doesn't have that spark anymore, his match with orton yesterday may have been nice, i didn't really pay much attention but that says something.

Besides he's more of a part timer than Brock :p

All that said, the mark in me would LOVE to see this happen :jericho:

I like Y2J, always have, always will... He's had a decent run over the past 3 months. I still think him coming back was all of a sudden, must've been Bryan's injury that caused Jericho to return and feud with Wyatt.

Hoping to see him in the Rumble match, though.

I think it's hard to get too invested in the match since each time he shows up, we know it's not going to be long and he won't win much. I would assume after doing this over and over like he has, it has to drain some of the energy out of him. If they'd put him in a more meaningful story line and add some sort of suspense to his angles, then he might get that spark back too. It's sort of like he sleepwalks through his returns.

And I know that part timers like that don't usually get placed in interesting stories, but since fans don't expect it to happen, it would be a bit of a surprise if they did. But currently it seems like both Jericho and the fans are going through the motions with him.
