Terry Funk's Wrestlefest: 50 Years of Funk
No Disqualification Match: Bret Hart def. Terry Funk (25:12)
View attachment 92456
The thing that surprises me more than anything else is that ECW got Vince to let them borrow Bret Hart for a night. This was meant to be Terry Funk's retirement match and you honestly can't ask for a better last opponent than Bret. Its kinda funny but also not funny how Terry was in WWF only three months later wearing a pantyhose over his head. Before the match begins, Paul E. some of the wrestlers and Funk's family gets in the ring and Paul E. gives a nice speech to send Funk out (on vacation). Bret grabs the mic and everyone boos. Bret calls Funk the GOAT and then says he's gonna give a Canadian ass whooping. It starts out being a wrestling match. Collar and elbow, tie-up. Bret works the match like a heel ‘cause he was in the middle of his “Fuck America” gimmick. Funk tries to go for the Spinning Toe Hold early, but Bret escapes and rolls out of the ring. Bret comes back inside, backs Funk up to the ropes and kicks his knees out. Bret employs the tried and true targeting of a limb for the next several minutes. Funk sells it like the pro that he is. He starts to back away from Hart, while also leaning in his direction with his good knee, keeping the bad one farther away to try and protect it. And he just throws a few jabs. I appreciate some subtly in wrestling. Bret reaches Funk's bad knee though with some kicks. Funk rolls outside and Bret starts attacking the other knee with a chair. Bret throws Funk back inside where he locks in the Figure Four and grabs the ropes for leverage. Two of Bret's brothers are outside for this match, and Funk starts talking shit to them as he's in the hold. That's funny. Terry rules. Bret eventually lets go of the hold, figuring and probably knowing Funk won't tap out to shit. One of Bret's brothers hits Funk in the head with a chair. More like a tap honestly. Bret grabs Funk by the hair, but Funk is on his knees now at this point and apparently the chair shot must have woken him up because he starts throwing body shits from the knees. Bret is throwing punches too, but Funk stands back up and drops Bret with a left jab. Funk hits a piledriver on Bret and gets a two count. Then Funk throws Bret outside, they brawl out there and Funk gets the better of it. But he doesn't have the advantage for long. He gets back in the ring and from the outside, Bret trips Funk and pulls him to the post so he can lock the Figure Four in around it. Bret goes back to the legs of Funk and brings a chair into the ring and he Pillmanizes Terry's knee. But Funk starts to clip Bret's knee back from the floor and gives Bret a taste of his own medicine. A couple fans toss Funk their chairs and Funk slams them into Bret's knee now. Funk throws Bret outside and sets up a table out there. He lays Bret on it and I thought he was gonna go for an Asai Moonsault through the table. But he goes for like an Asai Vader Bomb or something, but Bret dodges him and Funk goes through the table. Bret picks Funk up and we see that Funk has been bloodied. Bret throws Terry back inside and tries for a Sharpshooter, but Funk pulls Bret into a small package to get a two count. Funk catches Bret by the foot, sweeps him off his feet and puts on the Spinning Toe Hold. But Bret counters by pulling Funk into a small package and gets a two. Bret starts throwing clotheslines and Funk gets back up every time. The two run at each other and crack heads. Funk picks Bret up and hits a back suplex, both men's shoulders are down, but Bret gets his up just before the three count. Bret beats Terry Funk. I liked this match. Its not the most thrilling match, its more of a good wrestling match, but I think it does Terry justice. Its amazing that he was still able to have great match at 53. R.I.P. you crazy ol’ Funker.

Yoshihiro Tajiri def. Steve Corino (10:22)
View attachment 92457
Before the match even starts, Corino grabs a microphone and he says some REALLY racist shit to Tajiri. So already, I'm hoping Tajiri whoops his ass. And it doesn't disappoint. He beats the shit out of Corino here. Tajiri kicks Corino down and the bell rings. Tajiri chops Corino in the corner and whips him to the buckle. Corino ducks a kick from Tajiri and hits an enziguri. Corino hits a sit-out powerbomb for a two count and backs Tajiri into the ropes, but Tajiri counters and traps Corino in the Tarantula. They head out onto the on ramp where Tajiri hits a brain buster and hits another hard kick to Corino's head. Corino crawls back into the ring where Tajiri grabs him, bites him in the forehead and spits in his face. Tajiri hangs Corino in the tree of woe and the visual of his own blood dripping into his hair and onto the mat is pretty sick. Tajiri runs and hits a baseball slide to Corino's bloody face. Tajiri brings a chair in the ring and plans to do the same thing with it. But Jack Victory grabs onto Tajiri's feet from the outside which gives Corino the chance to get up and superkick Tajiri but only gets a one count from that. Corino picks up the chair and runs at Tajiri with it. But Tajiri gets his feet up, the chair goes back into Corino's face. And then Tajiri does it, dropkicks the chair into his face. The chair flies out of Corino’s hands and towards the camera man who thankfully was saved by the ring ropes. Tajiri heads outside and grabs a table and sets it up, standing near the ropes and dropkicks into Corino's face. Jack Victory gets on the ramp to help Corino up, but as Corino gets up, Tajiri leaps off the middle of the top rope to hit a double clothesline them. Corino stands back up and leans on the ropes. Tajiri takes a run at him but gets back dropped through the table in the ring. Corino gets a two count off that. At this point in the match, you can hardly see his face under all the blood, his blonde hair has been entirely coated in red. Corino motions for Jack to throw in a table. Corino sets it up, but Tajiri gets Corino in an Octopus Stretch and as he does, Jack Victory gets in the ring and tries to save Corino, but Tajiri spews green mist in his face. Corino hits Tajiri with a powerslam, but Tajiri gets up and starts lighting Corino up with repeated jabs and kicks and backs him up against the table! I lost count of how many it was! Tajiri lays Corino down on the table, goes to the top rope and double stomps him through the table, then hooks the leg, 1, 2, 3. Tajiri takes an absolute dominating victory!

6-Man Tag Team Match: Do FIXER def. Blood Generation (20:34)
View attachment 92458
Straight, just put your foot to the gas pedal kind of match. This match was insane, quick and all around spectacular! I've only heard about how good this match was, my first time seeing it was today. And to say I was blown away would be an understatement. First of all, I'm glad that they mentioned that this was Dragon Gate rules. As someone who's never watched Dragon Gate, I didn't know what their tag rules were. The crowd was really hot for this before the bell even rang, so they were all in for this ride. They save a lot of the crazy stuff for the last 10 minutes of the match. But they keep the pace quick enough in the first few minutes of the match to keep you interested. And the teamwork in this match is off the charts. This might be the purest form of teamwork I've ever seen in wrestling. In the beginning, Blood Generation have some trouble outmaneuvering Do FIXER despite the unreal speed Yoshino shows as he runs off the ropes. Each man comes in the ring at one point in the first few minutes to keep the matchups fresh. I do have one criticism, and thats that the hot tag aspect of the match feels ultimately pointless if the rule is that guys can come in and out at any point. Thats all I'll say about it. Blood Generation attempt to isolate Dragon Kid from his corner, but he manages to tag in Saito after dropping CIMA with a jumping roundhouse kick. Doi comes in and faces off with Saito and they start lighting each other up with chops, an exchange that Saito wins. Do FIXER pull some sweet double team moves. Dragon Kid hits like a 619 to Doi but only using Saito as if he were the ring ropes. Horiguchi goes for a suplex on Doi, but Doi backs him up towards his corner, allowing CIMA and Yoshino to grab Horiguchi by the tights towards their corner. And from there, they start isolating him from Kid and Saito. All 3 members of Blood Generation come in to take turns throwing Horiguchi across the ring by what little hair he has left. Yoshino tilt-a-whirls into an Octopus Stretch on Horiguchi. CIMA and Doi run in to prevent Kid and Saito from breaking it. They continue to wear Horiguchi down for a few more minutes until eventually, he finally reaches Saito. And from this point forward, it is nothing but full speed ahead! Saito throws Doi to the outside with an overhead belly to belly. Dragon Kid sends Yoshino outside with a tilt-a-whirl head scissors. Horiguchi comes back in and hits a tope to Doi. Dragon Kid hits a moonsault off the top rope to Yoshino to the outside. Saito and CIMA get in the ring and they light each other up! Saito drops CIMA with a chop, but CIMA quickly kips up and dropkicks Saito. CIMA goes for a head scissors, but Saito counters with a powerbomb. Saito hits 3 Fishermans and gets a two count. O'Connor roll by CIMA and then a double stomp. CIMA calls his partners back inside. They triple team him. Dragon Kid comes in, but Doi kicks him and stacks him on Saito's shoulders so CIMA hits a bulldog on Kid, which causes Saito to faceplant too. This is what I mean. The teamwork is honestly incredible. Yoshino hits a slingblade on Dragon Kid, goes to the top rope and gets so much height on this missile dropkick, its unbelievable! Dragon Kid reverses a suplex by turning it into a stunner. Kid runs off the ropes but Doi shoves Yoshino out of the way, reverses Kid's tilt-a-whirl and drops him face first on the mat. Doi misses Kid in the corner and Horiguchi comes back in, hits a dropkick and goes to moonsault Doi. Doi gets his knees up, and picks Genki up on his shoulders, but gets countered into a reverse DDT. Doi drops Genki with a facebuster off his shoulders, heads up to the top rope, only for Saito to meet him up there. Saito lifts Doi up on his shoulders. Dragon Kid springboards in and head scissors Doi off Saito's shoulders! And then Saito follows that with a splash on Doi. And I thought that was it. And the count was so close that I thought it was over. But then I see the referee holding up two fingers and the commentary says “ONLY TWO!” And the action doesn't slow down from there! Doi holds Dragon Kid as if he's going for the Styles Clash, so Yoshino can hit a baseball slide kick. Missile dropkick from Horiguchi to Yoshino. CIMA comes back inside and goes at it with Genki. Doi comes in and drops Genki. Saito comes in and sends Doi out. Yoshino comes back in and gets a clean German Suplex out of a tilt-a-whirl from Saito that gets another very close two count. Dragon Kid springboards in and hits a Frankensteiner on Yoshino. 1, 2, so close but Doi stops the pinfall! Dragon Kid goes to the top rope, but CIMA leaps in and hits a jumping chop to the face. Saito saves Kid by hooking CIMA's waist from behind. Kid sunset flips Saito, which in turn sends CIMA flying with a German Suplex. Genki comes back in and hits CIMA with a Dead Eye Piledriver. He slowly covers CIMA as his teammates hold back CIMA's teammates. 1, 2. 2.9999999 again! Yoshino and Doi trip Genki as he hits the second rope. Saito tries to help his partner but triple teamed and stacked between the shoulders of Yoshino and Doi so CIMA can double stomp him from off the top rope. He lands on his feet and rolls forward to hit a backbreaker to Horiguchi. Dragon Kid springboards in, gets caught by CIMA, who hits a celtic cross for another close 2 count! The crowd is losing their minds. Doi comes in and takes Dragon Kid to the ropes, but Kid escapes whatever he was attempting and hits a cutter off the top rope! Kid goes back up and flips forward to hit a Frankensteiner on Doi to finally get a 3 count. Amazing performance by everyone in this match! This was insane in the best way possible!
