James Toney is preparing to fight Ken Shamrock in a special rules fight. While the fight is obviously a weird, somewhat crazy throwback to the more insane days of early MMA, or maybe it's just a throwback to the days or Kimbo Slice against Ray Mercer, or maybe the days of Ray Mercer vs. Tim Sylvia. Or I suppose maybe it's just a sadder version of Randy Couture vs. James Toney. Regardless, it is going to be weird.

And to add a new layer of drama to the fight, James Toney has been kicked out of his gym. Via Larry Brown Sports:

Toney used to do his training at the 360 Health Club in Reseda, California, but was kicked out after having an incident with another member. The gym would not comment on the matter citing company policy, but they did confirm that Toney is no longer a member. We're told Toney made another member feel uncomfortable with a verbal and/or physical threat.

When asked what happened between him and 360, Toney told LBS "We had a disagreement with the managers. We had too much traffic coming in - the wrong traffic." We did not press Toney for details on the specifics of the incident, but officials at 360 say the suggestion that bringing in "the wrong traffic" was not the issue.

It has been such an insane fall from grace for Toney. From a 2003 trouncing of Evander Holyfield to not being able to make money boxing to a second shot at the limelight in the UFC and now fighting Ken Shamrock in a special rules fight and he can't continue training at his normal gym.

It'd be horribly sad if it wasn't earned by James through a complete lack of drive and discipline at the exact moments when cementing his legacy (and inflating his bank account) was easiest.
