A new James Bond game is to be released this autumn, Activision announced today. The game, titled 007 Legends, is not a direct tie-in with the next silver screen outing for the British secret agent; it is to be a collection "of Bond's most iconic and intense undercover missions" from across the series' history, the publisher said.

007 Legends is being developed by Eurocom, which has a lengthy history with the superspy. The studio created 2011's GoldenEye 007: Reloaded and also worked on GoldenEye 007 for the Wii in 2010, 2002's James Bond 007: Nightfire, and 1991's James Bond Jr. for the NES.

The story and missions for 007 Legends' single-player campaign will be drawn from Skyfall, the latest movie in the series that is set for release this October, and five other Bond movies. It has not yet been revealed which of Bond's other 22 official cinematic outings will feature. The game will also see the return of the MI6 Ops Missions mode from GoldenEye Reloaded, and some of these missions will see players slipping into the shoes--poisoned or otherwise--of some of his foes and cohorts, as well as the titular spy.

Four-player split-screen multiplayer is promised, alongside traditional competitive online modes. These modes will feature "maps, weapons and characters derived from Bond's 50 year legacy," Activision said.

007 Legends is planned to launch this autumn on the Xbox 360 and PS3.

Don't think I've played a James Bond game since Goldeneye on The N64.

I used to love playing Goldeneye on my cousins N64. I would go over all the time and we would play it for hours, awesome game. I was tempted to get the one that was released recently for Wii but I couldn't bring myself to buy it.
