- In a cost-cutting measure, World Wrestling Entertainment released “Superstar” Billy Graham, 65, from his $2,000 per month level consulting contract this past week — saving $24,000 annually.

The WWE Hall of Famer was given 90 days notice that the company was canceling the contract with one year remaining on it.

The move is said to be similar to what they did with fellow Hall of Famer Afa Anoa’i, Sr. a few weeks ago. The father of former WWE wrestler Manu was told that the company was re-evaluating all deals of that type as a result of the waning economy.

Will there be more, I wondah~!

Never knew he was under contract TBH, but you gotta feel for these guys. they have no pension, so their legends contracts are all they have, and now those get cut off.

I'm sure most of them get paid handsomely for touring the indies and the wrestling conventions.

no its true thats not a lot of money, and yeah guys like them can make a lot more by touring indies, but only if they are called. The reason the WWE is able to sign legends to these low contracts is because its gaurenteed money for as long as they are employeed. Without it sure they can take indy bookings but if there is no intrest in them, there is no money.

That's not a bad deal. You work for WWE for years, retire, then WWE gives you $2000 a month? That doesn't seem like much but considering how much money they made while they were active, it's just a little added bonus.

Guys from that age made nowhere near what guys today are making. And when a wrestler did make some money back then they lived it up and blew all their money....either that or spent all their money on pain killers.

I wouldn't call it a good deal. Firstly, the legends nowadays, who wrestled in the 70's, 60's and 80's, didn't make much to begin with. They weren't exactly paid hamdsomely. Second, to have the money taken away now is even worse. It was good they were getting paid before on legends deals, but now with their contracts beign taken away, they have no source of income, after giving every day of their life for 20 years to the industry and company.
Oh, and does anyone actualyl expect Superstar Billy Graham to go do indies to make money? C'mon.

Remember, McMahon paid for all his surgeries and that when Graham had fucked up his kidney's and such with steroid abuse.

They get the dough for merchandise and such regardless I think, although I doubt that's alot, especially for Graham.

Nah, I don't think you get it. He wasn't getting paid "to do nothing". He was getting the same treatment almost everyone else in the western world gets once they retire. When you retire, you get a pension, which means you get anywhere between 1000 and 2000 dollars a month, paid to you, after you've retired. Wrestlers don't get pensions though, so the only way to get money for them, is these legends contracts. If Vince takes them away (which he is supposedly doing) then their main source of money is gone. It's not like the legends contract was a "sweet deal". The legends contract just provided them with the same money every other retired person gets.

Consider this though... Vince isn't obliged to do any of this... Legends 'pensions, rehab, medical bills, all that stuff.

It's sad that guys like Graham may stuggle financially in their later years, but ya can't shit on Vince or it.

It's a common situation throughout 'all' sports prior to the relatively recent rise of big money contracts. Even today, unless you reach the top and/or are smart with your money, the chances of setting yourself up for an early retirement (compared to the the average retirement age) is rather unlikely.
