This is something I think WWE is really, really lacking. Impact debuts. Guys who shoot to the top right away. When was the last time it happened? People will probably say Orton, Cena, and Batista, but none of them had impact debuts. All were in WWE for 3 years, making their way up through the midcard before being a title contender and main eventer. But if you look back, some of the best guys have shot up quickly through WWE's ranks.

Brock Lesnar- My personal favourite of these guys I'll list. He debuted in March 2002, and was basically a star right away. Sure, he had to squash the Hardy's, and feud with RVD first, but he was billed as a massive megastar from day one. He won the WWE Undisputed Title in August 2002, just months after his debut, and went on to become one of the most impactful superstars of all time.

Kane- He didn't waste any time. They booked him to feud with Undertaker right from the get go, as his debut featured him breaking in during Taker's HIAC match, and Kane was a big star and main eventer for the next 3-4 years. After that, he could've remained a top guy, but WWE's booking caused him to slide down the card (I'll make another thread about that). No doubt that he made a huge debut, and was a main eventer shortly after his debut.

Chris Jericho- Now, talk about an impact. He made his debut by coming in and interuptting The Rock, and engaging in a breif feud with him. From there, he would continue momentum, and eventually win the WWE title 9 months later.

Undertaker- He debuted at Survivor Series 1990, and although it took him a year to win the WWE Title, he was a huge impact from the start, disposing of Jimmy Snuka at Mania to start "The Streak", and feuding with Hulk Hogan, the biggest star of the time.

Kurt Angle- Angle debuted in November 1999, and immediately was a force. He was undefeated for weeks, and later went on to feud with one of the biggest stars in the company, Triple H, and eventually won the WWE Title from the Rock at No Mercy 2000, just 10 months later.

There's been many more too. But really, the last big impact debut was Brock Lesnar, and that was over 7 years ago. WWE has really been lacking this. It seems any time they use vignettes to promotes an upcoming superstar, that guy ends up debuting in lowcard matches, and stays there, with nothing to do, and eventually ends up as a midcarder for life, or released.
I think if they were to find someone, and determien that he is the next "THE Guy", they should just set their sites on pushing him. Slow, gradual pushes to the top are good, sure, but you can't have every single guy have a slow ride. Every couple years, you need a guy who you have debut with a bang. That ensures that he'll end up being a star, instead of rottign with nothing to do and being released, and also makes him seem credible, if he debuts witha bang.
Again, I'm not sayin' this should happen often. That'd be unrealistic, and show a lack of effort to build guys up, but every so often, there needs to be an impact debut, and there hasn't been one for 7 years and counting.
Anyone agree that WWE needs a few more of these than they have had over the past few years?

The last guy i remember who got pushed a little after a debut was carlito. He beat cena on his first night and pinned him for the U.S title on smackdown. But i agree mike, Brock, Jericho and Kane all had good debuts. Some like kozlov should have been shot tot he top. Umaga came in and killed flair but i dunno he didn't do to badly now did he?

Show me anyone who has debuted in the past year or so that has deserved it and I'de say fuck it...go for it.

In real life...wrestlers don't pay their dues anymore. Most of these guys don't have to go through any of the indy or HS gym bullshit that any of the older guys went through. They cut a check, get trained...go to a training facility and if they look good they're signed, pushed and paid.

Ted dibiase is flirting at the top with legacy but that's not really a push is it? He has not been pushed singularly. I would have pushed Kofi kingston more when he first came into it. And the wwe missed the boat with making kozlov better.

^Kozlov is a poor choice. Umaga is superior to him in every way shape and form, if any monster should have been pushed to the top it's him. Sadly I don't think is character is "open" enough for a main event push. I mean...ya know...the majority of WWE fans don't speak Samoan.

I think the problem is that these so called Impact Debuts are very hit and miss. If you push the guy straight to the top and the crowd get involved with them then it's a great success, but if the crowd lack interest in the pushed guy, he not only makes himself look like shit but also the guy he feuds with.

You're not seriously counting the reversed decision against HHH on SD are you?

WWE doesn't acknowledge it.

December 2001 was Jericho's first world title.

I guess to answer the original question: Brock.

^That wasn't the original question though
The question was about do you think there should be more, and do you like them? Besides as for Jericho, him "winning" that title was still part of his huge debut. Sure, it was reversed, but it was all part of his huge push to the top.

^^^Yeah, but it didn't exactly take him to the top.... Only the midcard vs the likes of Regal, Kane, Benoit etc. for the next year and a half (and then, once he droped the strap to HHH, straight back back down again to be considered upper mid-card-for-life until his return in 2007.)

The topic: Doh! ....My mistake.

were you alive when taker made his debut?

pretty much everyone has had an "impact" debut. even muhammad hassan did. where they went with that is what matters.

anyway, the wwe can do ANYTHING and we'd all love it as long as they do it right. the last time they "pushed someone too fast" right was with brock lesnar and arguably cena...but nah, cena wasn't pushed to the main event too fast either. brock took like 6 months to be a legit top superstar. i honestly dont remember them doing that with anyone except him, angle and jericho. at least now while i was alive and watching.

*slaps himself, wtf

I wouldnt consider Kurt Angles debut to be an impact debut... Guys that have debuted in the wwe over the past 2 or 3 years have really been hit or miss in terms of having a strong debut that really builds their momentum......Lately WWE tends to have debuting heels face off against no name guys and doing that gets them no heat or momentum because the fans cant get behind the no name guy..... The best impact debut in WWE History was Brock lesnars without a doubt he debuted the night after wrestlemania 18 and right away proved his dominance by destroying maven spike and al snow and then went on to destroy many established fan favorites such as the hardys and then went on to win king of the ring.... Brock also got a singles victory over Ric Flair on Raw... a single victory on Hulk Hogan on smackdown and brock forced hogan to submit and smeared hogans blood on his chest and this really proved that brock was a legitimate threat.... The highly anticipated Brock Vs Rock happened at Summerslam 2002 and the Rock was m favorite wrestler and I was legitimately worried that Rock would lose the Undisputed title.... Brock Lesnar defeated the Rock on my 12th B day August 25th 2002 and had the full support of the fans... When he beat the Rock I was in complete shock .... Brock then went on the Beat undertaker in Hell In a Cell..... In January 2003 he won The Royal Rumble and then went on to WM19 to beat Kurt Angle for the WWE title in the Main Event and Brock accomplished all of this in his ROOKIE SEASON if that is not impact I dont know what is
