He never didn't use a battery powered one near the ring. Too many things could go wrong with an oil lantern.
Sometimes a risk or two is worth it. It isn't as if it matters too much. He 'blows it out' well before he hits the ring.
With all the pyro that is used (especially Kane's) you'd think it wouldn't be such a big deal.
It's something simple most don't notice (which is good) but would just add to the cult like nature of the guy.

Yeah I can say I always thought it was odd he lit one, blew it out, and then came out with another one. But I still love the entrance and the way the crowds have taken to it.
