The Rock at one point in his career used to be the overhyped, overrated happy go lucky rookie babyface earlier in his career when he was Rocky Maivia in 1996 - 97 but he was allowed to turn heel and join The Nation Of Domination,.got over in the group went solo again and then back as a heel in The Corporation from late 1998 to early 1999 then went babyface again after a few months. Then switched to a heel again in February 2003 after a 5 year run as a face and then stayed a face ever since April 2003. John Cena was already a heel when he was doing the "Doctor Of Thuganomics" rapper gimmick in late 2002 - early 03, turned face at the end of 03 and hadn't been a heel ever since. Roman Reigns was a heel in The Shield and then turned face but the WWE is also forcing the audience members to cheer for him like The Rock used to be, but how come he and Cena can't turn heel but The Rock could ?

I doubt Vince wanted to turn Rocky Maivia heel in the first place. He was pretty desperate when he did. After that, I think he just did a lot of heel/face back and forths in the AE because he thought it would be unpredictable.

Because Cena sells a lot of merchandise...& they had no
choice but to let the Rock turn because he wasn't working
as a babyface.

Now Vince clearly doesn't give a flying fuck what the fans
want or think & just keeps pushing Reigns because he's
a senile old fool.

Everyone thinks turning Roman heel will "Fix" everything
wrong with the WWE...but it won't.

The WWE main roster is incredibly flawed & because of
the lack of competition the WWE has no reason to change,
improve or listen to its audience.

Reigns is beyond fixing at this point...the boos will continue
to the day he retires & is inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Most of the WWE audience has been "conditioned" to boo
Reigns at this point...and turning him heel will only make
the boos "make sense" in context.

Even if Reigns turns heel it doesn't mean the audience
will EVER accept him as a face.

I actually feel sorry for the guy & the wrestling fans that
actually like him...mainly because I can never tell if those
who claim to like him are being 100% serious.

The worst thing about this Reigns situation is unless
he suffers a serious injury he's going to be around for
years...& as long as Vince is calling the shots...he's
going to be getting pushed as the "Top Guy" while other
more talented wrestlers never get the chance to reach
their full potential.

(Seth Rollins I fear will be the main victim of this)

I actually believe the women's division is on the
same long term path to ruin because of Alexa Bliss.

(Of course Reigns can wrestle & sell...Bliss cannot
which is even worse)

Of course...our opinions don't mean $hit to the WWE...
so they'll just "stay the course" & keep pushing Roman.

Why do I even reply to these thread?

Plus you have to remember, when Rock turned heel he wasn't on the same level as Roman now or Cena a few years ago. He was a midcarder, so they we're more open to experiment. On top of that, they had a huge main event scene with guys like Austin, Foley, and Undertaker, and a more than over midcard scene to sell merch to the casual fans. In modern WWE, they put everything in Cena and Roman, so minus one or two exceptions (CM Punk and Braun Strowman for example) they can't risk the merch sales going down, since that's basically all they have. Of course, they could easily push more guys to fill that role, but they have the "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" mentality, oblivious to the giant cloud of black smoke coming out of the machine

I agree with what you said, except for the fact that when Rock turned heel he was just a mid carder. That’s not true at all. He was already on top and made a name for himself and turned heel against Goldberg, hogan, and stone cold.

No he meant in 1997 when The Rock wasn't known as The Rock yet, he was still Rocky Maivia and had not yet become the popular wrestling star that he would be later on. The stuff with Goldberg, Hulk Hogan and Stone Cold happened in 2003.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!
[doublepost=1532919047][/doublepost]Regardless, he still went heel at the top of his game, even when he was a major successful face.

He also had Austin to feud with and having your top 2 guys feud is money (see Hogan and Macho man for example, HBK vs Taker).

When Austin turned heel part of the problem was he had no one to realy feud with on his level as HHHH and Rock were both AFK.
