Hector Lombard’s (Pictured) Bellator days are officially over. On Tuesday, the middleweight announced he had signed a multi-fight contract to join the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

“I am in the UFC it is official : ),” Lombard tweeted Tuesday afternoon.

The 34-year-old became a restricted free agent shortly after November’s TKO victory over Trevor Prangley. Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney had been mulling over whether to match the UFC’s contract offer to Lombard, but after crunching some numbers he must have determined his now-former 185-pound champion’s asking price was too high.

Lombard has rattled off 24 consecutive wins and is considered to be one of the top middleweights not competing in the Octagon. He was perfect through all eight of his scraps under Bellator’s banner.

“Lightning” and former lightweight champ Eddie Alvarez were the first two athletes Rebney signed when he launched the promotion in 2008. Alvarez has one fight remaining on his Bellator contract and is already in the UFC’s sights.

No word on when Lombard will make his big league debut.

Good, now lets see if he's legit. I think he is, but as always there's some people who are doubting it but I'm predicting a big year from him. HUGE loss for Bellator, but it's not like they didn't see it coming.

Be nice to see him come in and take on a top 10 guy. His first fight being against Munoz or Stann would be my choices.

He and Stann would have a great fight, maybe even Rousimar Palhares think both of them could easily gravitate towards the top of the MW's in the next few years.
