The Harry Potter books were good. The movies are terrible adaptations.

I tried getting into the Harry Potter movies, but didn't like them. It was like that with The Lord of the Rings series too. I didn't think I'd like them. But was bored one day and watched it. It was real good. Harry Potter ain't have the same effect though.

The Lord of the Rings books are amongst the worst written books I have ever read.

Tolkien's writing is grossly over-rated.

Agreed. I tried reading the first one, and it just droned on and on and on.

With summer holidays coming up, i'd love some good books to read. Any recommendations?

With some queer ass hobbit song on every other page.

Clive Barker, probably my favourite author ever. If you read his stuff I'd go with the following in particular:

Weaveworld
The Great and Secret Show
Everville
Mr. B Gone
Imajica

He's got a lot more, but those are the standouts. He's kind of a horror writer, kind of a fantasy writer. Some really messed up shit in some of the books, like really imaginative.

If you've ever seen Hellraiser (Pinhead) that's based on one of his books.
