May not mean much to most, but if you watch a current H.264 video @ 720p 30FPS, it's running at roughly 1000Kbps. The new H.265 codec will allow 720p 30FPS at only 500Kbps, so those who are on limited bandwidth can watch twice as much video. It gives the same quality, in half the bandwidth!
For me, it's great because it means that I have to use less bandwidth, and even though I have unlimited bandwidth it means I can share the videos quicker as they're half the size.
