Grand Theft Auto 6, the next major entry in Rockstar's best-selling series, is "well underway" and in "active development", Rockstar said today.

It's the furthest that Rockstar has ever gone in acknowledging GTA6's inevitable approach - and it comes as GTA5 launches on its third console generation to date, on 15th March.

"With the unprecedented longevity of GTA5, we know many of you have been asking us about a new entry in the Grand Theft Auto series," Rockstar wrote in a blog post today.

"With every new project we embark on, our goal is always to significantly move beyond what we have previously delivered - and we are pleased to confirm that active development for the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series is well underway. We look forward to sharing more as soon as we are ready, so please stay tuned to the Rockstar Newswire for official details."

Or, y'know, anywhere else that games news is posted on the internet.

GTA5 originally launched in September 2013 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Nearly 10 years on, this is the most we've ever heard on its sequel.

Of course, in the interim, Rockstar has been kept busy building GTA Online, which has been a major money-spinner for Rockstar and parent company Take-Two ever since its arrival. GTA Online will also get a spruced up PS5 and Xbox Series X/S launch when GTA5 arrives there in a couple of months.

Nice to see them finally acknowledge they're working on it & it's in full development (even if it was quite obvious). I'd imagine it'll be a good while before we see anything from the game though.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if we're in or close to the next generation by the time it's releasing I'm just wondering if they go back to Vice City, that has been the speculation for a good while

Yes please. I really enjoyed the driving in that game, and the tone of it all. Liked the more realistic approach. Thought the story was a lot tighter too. They went really ambitious with V with the three characters. I always said I'd prefer just playing as Michael, as he seemed to be the central focus. That's what I mostly ended up doing too as I enjoyed playing as him the most, and his car.

I like to control everything and I hated how I had to play exclusively with one of them sometimes and then when I wanted to pick up with another one, I would find him in his underwear at the top of a mountain, although I'm pretty sure that always was Trevor.

I liked Franklin a heck of a lot more than Trevor. Mostly for the dynamic with Lamar which I thought was pretty funny. It reminded me of Craig & Smokey from Friday. Even some parts felt like they were taken from the movie. I think the only issue with Franklin is they didn't spend enough time fleshing out his character, but I definitely enjoyed playing as him. Also, his car you start with was pretty dope, I still use it in Online mode.

Yea, that is 100% Trevor He's always doing whacky shit when you switch to him.
