Time for an early Christmas Present...
Now here on the WWE Forums.net some days you maybe left wondering
about a great many things...
How many cats does @Solid Snake really own?
How does @Solidus have his tea?
How often does @Jacob Fox wear a turtle neck?
And what about that @Grievous guy? What makes him tick?
I mean he seems to have an unhealthy obsession with Emma's buttocks,
Asuka kicking him into submission and Becky & Charlotte getting married...
but what else is there? What lurks behind that mask he stole from an overrated
Star Wars character?
Of course you probably don't care and are wondering if you can order pizzain
tonight...but if you do care just a tiny little bit...then stick around as I share with
you a few of my other interests in this special thread originally titled...
Grievous Recommends...
First Stop...Films...
So outside of wrestling...the art of film and film making in general is of great
interest to me. In fact if I could have my time again I would study film in hopes
of one day being involved in the creation of a piece of cinema.
I'll generally watch any kind of film (besides romance & comedies) from any
country (I don't mind subtitles) of any quality (MST3K is one of my all time
favorite shows).
Now anyone can recommend a film if its good...but I'm going to recommend 5
films that may seem somewhat left field...but I think reflect on just what kind of
person I am.
The Host (2006)
The Host (2006 film) - Wikipedia
It features a deformed fish monster who kidnaps and eats people while a group
of feuding family members try to hunt it down. Sounds kind of like my life really...
Zodiac (2007)
Zodiac (film) - Wikipedia
One of my all time favorite film by one of my all time favorite directors...its a fantastic
mystery/thriller that is subtle and thoughtful.
Pacific Rim (2013)
Pacific Rim (film) - Wikipedia
Its a film that made me feel like a kid again and the action and robot/kaiju designs
are top notch. See this before the sequel cheapens the original.
Godzilla 1985 (1985)
Godzilla 1985 - Wikipedia
The first Godzilla film I saw as a kid and it changed me forever. I watched it on my
own on a dark, stormy night on an old VHS tape and its one of the few memories I
have from my childhood.
Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988)
Who Framed Roger Rabbit - Wikipedia
The mixing of live-action & animation that still amazes me to this day and I've had an
unhealthy "love" of redheads ever since.
And while I'm here...I may as well list my favorite directors...
1). Ishiro Honda
2). David Fincher
3). Guillermo del Toro
4). Akira Kurosawa
5). Ridley Scott
And for the record I also enjoy "adult films" but this is neither the time or place to discuss
those.
Moving on...
Second Stop...Music...
Well...I'm metal guy...have been for many years...but I do like some other artists outside
of that genre which include Lady Gaga, Skrillex, Katy Perry & The Prodigy. I'm pretty open
minded with music with the only genres I can't handle being country.
That said...here are my Top 5 Favorite Albums of all time...
1). Roots by Sepultura (released in 1996)
A giant, smouldering pot of groove & nu-metal laced with Brazilian tribal music.
2). October Rust by Type O Negative (released in 1996)
A strange & somewhat disjointed album of haunting, romantic doom metal ballads.
3). Iowa by Slipknot (released in 2001)
I actually own this one Vinyl...and it still remains one of my favorites to this day.
4). With Teeth by Nine Inch Nails (released in 2005)
One of the few albums where every song is a necessary piece of a greater puzzle.
While most fans praise the Downward Spiral or The Fragile...this is my favorite NIN
album by far.
5). Blood Mountain by Mastodon (released in 2006)
Representing the element of Earth and charting the journey of a man climbing a
mountain...this album shows Mastodon at the most raw & creative.
Other bands I recommend giving a listen to would be:
Soilwork
Lamb of God
Fear Factory
Soulfly
HIM
Faith No More
Babymetal
Alice In Chains
Killswitch Engage
Neurosis
Moving on...
Third Stop...Novels...
Well...I do actually read novels...not just comics & manga...and I thought I'd list a few.
1). Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton
After I saw the film back in 1993...I immediately had to read the book...and yes...
the book is better.
2). Relic by Douglas Preston & Lincoln Child
Again...I saw the film and really enjoyed it...but the book is on another level
completely.
3). Jaws by Peter Benchley
Yes...if I like a film I have to read the original source material...and if you get a
chance I suggest you track this one down. Spielberg made a lot of changes and
the original novel is much darker.
4). The Great Zoo of China by Matthew Reilly
Jurassic Park...in China...with Dragons. Its so awesome and I really hope they
make a film adaptation.
5). The Andromeda Strain by Michael Crichton
A short but terrifying read about the outbreak of a deadly extraterrestrial
microorganism.
My favorite author of all time is Michael Crichton and I have at least a paperback
copy of each of his books.
Fourth Stop...Anime & Manga...
Okay...so I'm just going to do a quick list...Ready? Go!
Attack On Titan
Neon Genesis Evangelion
Assassination Classroom
One-Punch Man
Death Note
New/Dominion Tank Police
High School DxD
Ikki Tousen
Queen's Blade
Sekirei
And I also read the Pokemon Adventures manga but I don't watch the show...
There done...Next!
Fifth Stop...Comics & Superheroes...
Read Alan Moore's Swamp Thing run. Its amazing. Other superhero comics I
enjoy reading are:
Swamp Thing
Power Girl
Supergirl
She-Hulk
Harley Quinn
Suicide Squad
Wonder Woman
Dazzler
The Sentry
Agents of H.A.T.E
&
The Demon (Etrigan)
Moving On...
Sixth Stop...Online Shows...
I watch a few online shows...here is a list of them...
The Cinema Snob
Brandon Tenold
Honest Trailers
Honest Game Trailers
Anime Abandon
Thew's Awesome Transformers Reviews
Red Letter Media
Zero Punctuation
Mister Metokur
Oliver Harper
The Jimquisition
Midnight's Edge
Ozzy Man Reviews
MovieBob
There are some others...but I'll keep that information to myself.
One more to go...
Seventh & Final Stop...Television...
So I honestly don't watch a lot of television shows...but I'll make a short list
of those I watch & have watched in the past...
Game of Thrones
Stranger Things
Sons of Anarchy
Breaking Bad
The Wire
&
my all time favorite...Mystery Science Theater 3000...although this one is kind
of cheating as every episode is basically a film with a riff tracks.
+++
Well...that about covers every base possible and like I've said...I recommend
everything in this post...and if you have any questions about the material mentioned
above...feel free to ask a question or two.
I've always got time for the members of this fine forum.
Well...with that said...take care of yourselves, have a Merry Christmas & I'll see you all
around the traps.
