This thread was inspired by Whatcultues Top Ten RumbleMoments Ever

I figured they would not have my spot that I still remember because anything pre AE seems to not exist unless it is WM III or a video about how terrible early 90's stuff was (I liked it at the time grr,).

But they included it.

And its this one.

Ultimate Warrior and Hogan last 2 men left 1990. This is the 1st time I have watched it again in over 20+ years.

In early 1990 I would have been 11 years old. Since I live in New Zealand I may have seen it late in the year or even 1991 IDK I think I stopped watching Wrestling in 1991 for a bit (it went of free to air TV).

Why did it rock so much that I still remember it 26+ years later?

1. It was face vs face. The Royal Rumble was about the only place you saw this.
2. It was between the 2 biggest super stars of the era (I liked Warrior, got bored of Hogan fast even while young).

Also one has to remember the context of the time. TV WWF in the 80's/90's was mostly crap. Jobber squash matches. Even seeing the mid card fight each other was a main event type thing and that meant Wrestlemania (the others came later, check the network). Face vs face was almost unheard of (at least in the WWF).

Now Hulk and Warrior at the time were massively over. Think Rock/Austin over or Cena/Undertaker levels of over. Note this is also before The Undertaker debuted (I remember him as well- he got a big push 1991).

To put this in context this would be like WM XIV Austin vs 2000's The Rock for the 1st time ever with both of them being faces where you did not get to see face vs face. You may read about Hogan pre NWO, or tributes to The Warrior but they were crazy big. You might miss that if you watch it on the network now.

I was also a rocker fan, never expected to see Shawn in the main title scene. Pre HBK he is in this match and he lasts around a minute if that.

So that is my RR memory, feel free to share yours below with or without explanations.

Kane's Rampage in 2001:
I remember watching it at a friends house with a bunch of guys
and everybody had picked a favorite to win. I of course picked
Kane and we all sat in front of the TV (some downing beers...
I myself sipping at a Rum & Coke with no Rum) and the match
began.

Now it started off basic enough...but then Drew Carey came
out at 5...WTF?

And then cue number 6 and all of us burst out laughing...
it was Kane...and one could only imagine Drew getting
tomb-stoned or Choke-Slammed...of course another
one of my favs Raven put a stop to that...and then the
Rumble turned into a hardcore match without the
hardcore title...until Kane had enough...and 5 straight
eliminations ended that.

By now the guys are ribbing me..."I bet your enjoying this
right?" and I have to admit I was...

Then the Honky Tonk Man ate a guitar and more laughs...

Of course the Rock was next and I thought here we go...
but surprisingly Kane stayed in...and it once again settled
down to a normal pace...until Big Show showed up...and
choke-slammed everyone into oblivion...apart from the
Rock...who eliminated Show only to get put through the
announcers table.

Kane was being quadruple teamed by this point and cue...
Limp Bizkit and Biker Taker...who cleaned house and
then teamed up with Kane...much to my delight at the
time.

Scotty 2 Hotty was murdered...and then Glass Shatters
and we all leap up cheering because...well...you did that
back then when Stone Cold's music hit...but wait...Triple
H from behind...Austin is bleeding...Rock crawls back in
the ring...The One Billy Gunn arrives...followed by Haku
(WTF?) and finally a recently heel turned Rikishi.

Austin is in the ring now bleeding everywhere...Haku,
Taker, Rikishi and Billy Gunn are gone...Kane is still fighting...
And by now we are all going crazy...and then Austin and
the Rock stare at each other from across the ring...and
its intense...because its what everyone wanted to see.

Then the Rock is gone and its Kane & Austin...and Austin
is hurt...and Kane is still fighting...he's a monster...he's
going to do it...he's going to Wrestlemania...he's...Oh Shit...
Austin has a chair...*Bang* Oh Fuck...*Bang* He's still standing!
*Bang* No!!! and then...well...Kane fell...and while I look back
now and laugh...at the time I was pretty cut about it.

But still...watching that Rumble with a group of (drunk) wrestling
fans at the height of the Attitude era...it was a truly special
moment and while Kane didn't win...I think its still my all time
favorite performance by any wrestler in any match.

There...I'm done...

Rey winning the rumble, me and a bunch of my younger cousins were hanging out at my uncle's place and made a big day out of it. It was before I knew about dirtsheets or rumours, but to see him win after Eddie had passed away was really awesome, marked out like anything!

I watched that match a few months ago and yeah it holds up well.

One downside of the AE is to much focus on Rock/Austin. Sure there are reasons for that but still.

I was gonna make this thread also, but forgot. Anyway...

- Kane smacking Honky Tonk Man with a guitar, 2001. Infact, everything Kane did in that Rumble.
- The Rock winning in 2000, I love the way they did that.

Thinking of others...

IN hindsight they may as well have told us in advance HBK was gonna win in 1995/96. Did not think in terms of pushes back then.

My favorite will always be Ric Flair winning the 1992 Rumble and becoming only the second person in history to hold both the NWA and WWF championships. I know that sort of thing is not a huge deal nowadays, but back then it was. And we didn't have all this internet chat and such to spoil the likely winners, so I honestly didn't expect Ric Flair to actually win... especially coming out at number 3.

I can't imagine ANY Rumble moment will ever make me happier than that.

My favorite moment was either when Roman Reigns broke the Elimination record or when he won. Idk it's a toss up

You know I actually think that if they had pulled the trigger on Roman then than make Batista win, Roman would have been a very likeable face and it would have probably set his career on a very John Cena like trajectory. He was really popular as part of the shield and towards the end of their dominance. Then a year later, they shoved him down people's throats and they hated it lol.

The important question is. Did you like the latest season of Red Dwarf?
