Gran Metalik reportedly requests WWE release

According to a report from Mas Lucha, Gran Metalik has requested his release from WWE after more than six years with the company.

The report stated that the former 24/7 Champion requested the release due to "lack of opportunities." His contract runs through 2022 ("valid until 2023") according to the report.

Metalik, 32, signed in the summer of 2016 and has spent time on Raw, Smackdown, NXT and 205 Live. He was a participant in the Cruiserweight Classic in 2016, defeating Tajiri, Akira Tozawa, and Zack Sabre Jr. on his way to the finals where he lost to TJ Perkins.

In recent years, Metalik has been a part of the Lucha House Party trio alongside Lince Dorado and Kalisto. After Kalisto left the group last fall, Dorado and Metalik continued to team together. He hasn't wrestled more than twice in a month since March of this year.

Before signing with WWE, Metalik went by the name of Mascara Dorada. he spent time in CMLL, New Japan Pro Wrestling and Lucha Libre Elite before his run in WWE, capturing the CMLL World Welterweight Championship a total of four times.

Nah, average luchador, above average (maybe for in-ring) for your standard WWE guy. Once the CW division was nerfed, he had no real place. I don't think he'd make any waves anywhere else, maybe MLW with their thing but he's just a solid lower carder to me.

Granted his best matches in WWE were also like 2016 but since then he's just been the least notable Lucha House party member to me

tbf I'll also admit I view 205 and nxt of that time through rose tinted glasses as well. I liked him a lot in the tourny but they did nothing with him immediately afterwards from what i remember. maybe a few token title challenger matches. which sucked because i thought he had a cool name/look/theme . I believe dorado got the solo push at the time in the end against pac but it feels like a lifetime ago now lol

I know they won't but I do hope he gets his release granted. He has been miscassed since coming to the WWE main roster. He is talent even though he is average in the ring with great lucha moves. Metalik needs to return to his roots and go back to his indy promotions that will actually let him thrive.
