August 31, 2009 - A few months ago, a Sony survey popped up asking God of War fans what they'd like to see to celebrate the upcoming release of God of War III. There was the normal stuff on there like a collector's edition, behind the scenes Blu-ray, etc., but the one that raised the IGN eyebrows was a compilation of the first two games

Today, the God of War Collection is a reality.

This "holiday season," one Blu-ray will be released that houses both the original God of War and God of War II. Obviously, the Blu-ray disc means that it's not a PS2 game and thus there's no need to worry about backwards compatibility. These PS2 games will be remastered and pack 60 frames-per-second action, 720p graphics, and PlayStation Network Trophy support.

"We are excited today to announce God of War Collection," said Scott Rohde, vice president of Sony Worldwide Studios America. "Our fans spoke and we listened; thanks to our partnership with Bluepoint Games, fans and newcomers to the series can experience the epic God of War and God of War II saga in stunning 720p on PS3. This Blu-ray Disc compilation brings Kratos to PS3 even earlier than expected."

The best news? All of that will only cost you $39.99.

Fact: The PS3 easily now has the best exclusives! Fact: This will be one of the best collections sets in video game history!

I've never played God of War, is this game really that good? ^^^ Your Avatar is epic though, but what's this game about, killing people Mortal Kombat style?

Yes the games are that good. You play Kratos who has to kill the gods Hades and Zeus. The game has better kill scenes then Mortal Kombat. The game is a very mature action game that has some puzzles. The gameplay is like Heavenly Sword if you know what that is but a lot better. At the start of the games you have his infamous "Blades of Chaos" which you use you pull off combos. These games easily have the most amount of combos i've seen for a single weapon. Later on in the games you will get more melee weapons and even a bow & arrow. The games have a progressing system where you can upgrade your weapons to make them more powerful and unlock more combos. The games also have "magic abilities" which are the powers from the gods. As you progress through both games you gain more of the Gods abilities. For example aftwhen you go to fight the hydra in the first game hydra Poseidon gives you his abilities called Poseidon's Rage which is a lighting attack that hurts everyone close to you. You can also upgrade the magic attacks to make them stronger. Another thing this game has is big boss battles and the craziest kill sequences you will ever see. To peform the sequences you will have to hit the buttons it tells you on screen and as you hit them Kratos will perform a crazy killing sequence. I won't really spoil the story you need to play them yourself. The controls are easy to pick up and start doing combos but the mroe you play the more combos you will learn and your skill will show the more you learn.

If you think Mortal Kombat and Gears are brutal wait till you play these two. You might have heard but yeah Kratos is a ruthless spartan who will even kill innocent people if they are in his way. He is hands down the biggest badass in video game history. So yeah just buy the collection.

Whoa nice! I'll most definantly have to get this collection then. Any time frame on when this will be coming out?

EDIT: Never mind. "This Holiday Season". Just saw that in the 1st post.

I picked the fine time to start gaming again. It feels good to be updated on everytthing and have the newest games. And this GoW Collection is fucking awesome. Ico and SOTC should get the same treatment when Last Guardian nears release

^^not that I am a fan of ICO and SOC, but thats not a bad idea, it would definatly do very well.

Pretty cool about GOW collection. Would have been cooler to make it part of the GOW3 Collectors Edition, lets be honest, people would have paid $100 for it.

lol but GoW III will be 60$.. and they're selling this for $40... So people will still be paying $100 for all 3 on blu-ray.. And I'm assuming a ton will because the new PS3's all don't support PS2 games. And then they also have the collectors for 80-100ish somewhere.. I think they'll be fine on making money.

While I would love a Ico/SOTC remake in HD, profit wise it might not do that well. A Jak & Daxter collection would make far more money and it would make up for not having a new Jak game on the PS3 and build hype for The Lost and Frontier. There is still a chance that Sony will let Naughty Dog make a new Jak & Daxter on the PS3 so it would be wise to remake the Jak games if they are going to. But depending on the cost of the remake they should consider a Ico/SOTC collection because if advertised it will let people know about the Last Guardian. Konami, Rockstar, Capcom, and other third parties should consider bringing their franchises to the PS3 if this collection sells well.
