Glover Teixeira is a longtime MMA veteran, but he wasn't able to make his UFC debut until May. However, the UFC isn't going to make him wait for a high profile fight, as they booked him against Quinton "Rampage" Jackson for this October in Brazil.
After a highly impressive debut over Kyle Kingsbury, Teixeira is preparing for a tough test, and believes he'll be able to handle anything Jackson throws his way.
"I'm going out with him in the standup," Teixeira said in an interview with Sherdog.com. "I have to be smart and not stand still, move, fight the right fight. But, I'll work on the strategy with my coaches. Look, it's MMA. I'm prepared for everything. The ground will be part of the game, yes, but I have to train everything for him, even takedown defense..."
"It's true, [the UFC] wanted to put a tough guy, a good name against me, and that's cool. It shows that they liked my fight and trust me to put on a good show."
It's not just a great opportunity for him, it's an opportunity to fight in his home country, a fact that has him even more excited after seeing the crowd reactions to the UFC's three events in the country in the last year.
"Wow, it's the best thing!" he responded when asked about returning to Rio de Janeiro. "I went to both UFCs in Rio and was very happy with what I saw, the crowd. Now, I imagine the crowd thrilled that way again, but this time for my fight. But I can't get too excited. You know how a fight is. You have to train and get ready."
This fight really is a smart move by the UFC, they will have a possible star in Glover if he comes in and runs through Jackson who's a former champion. Mean while it's also a big Fuck you to Jackson who's done nothing but shit on the organization the last few months.
