Yeah, Eddie is someone that I have respected for a long time and I would definitely welcome that. But you know, as much as I try to get excited for these and try to make these things happen, right now, I am trying not to get involved in that. I really don’t have that much say. I just let the promoters do it and hey, the power of the media, maybe you guys can help me out with that and the fans can make demands. But someone like Eddie would definitely interest me and definitely would motivate me. It’s nothing I am going to try to push for or waist my time over, but anything would be cool. I am up for whomever right now. I want to stay busy and fight for my fans, fight for my team and fight for my family, so it doesn’t matter who, I will take whoever right now.â€￾

In a recent interview with mmaweekly.com, the always in Strikeforce limbo, Gilbert Melendez discusses his thoughts on former Bellator lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez.

This fight has the potential to be fight of the year. Hopefully it can get done.

Called it!

Don't see it actually coming off though, they wouldn't want either to lose any momentum, especially SF main moneymaker. Thats probably why they aren't testing Melendez, because he's single handedly keeping that company alive.

It's crazy, but true. If Gilbert Melendez wasn't around Strikeforce wouldn't be in business. Eventually it'll all pay off and he'll be in the UFC. Until then, he'll fight Thompson 4804238082042843-583583950834583958932 more times.

For how much longer is Melendez under contract with Strikeforce? Does he have X number of fights left or does he have X number of years left?

It might be years, because he was tied into the Showtime deal Strikeforce signed last November. And that was a 2 year deal. I'm not really sure.
