Georges St-Pierre, Alexander Gustafsson advance to final round of ‘EA Sports UFC’ cover vote
UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre and Swedish light heavyweight contender Alexander Gustafsson will square off in the final round of the ongoing “EA Sports UFC†cover vote.
St-Pierre moved past UFC lightweight champ Anthony Pettis, and Gustafsson advanced over the outspoken Chael Sonnen in the semifinal round of the fan voting competition.
St-Pierre and Gustafsson now square off for the right to join UFC light heavyweight champ Jon Jones on the cover of the upcoming UFC video game, which is currently slated for a spring 2014 release.
While St-Pierre narrowly defeated Johny Hendricks in the main event of this month’s UFC 167 event, he remains one of the most popular figures in the sport. UFC President Dana White has repeatedly stressed that the French-Canadian is the most popular pay-per-view draw in MMA.
Meanwhile, a Gustafsson-Jones cover would highlight one of the best fights of 2013, as the Swede pushed “Bones†to the limit in falling just short of unseating the champ. The pair are expected to meet again should they each prove victorious in their upcoming contests.
St-Pierre and Gustafsson are the final two athletes left in an original field of 16 fighters that also included the likes of Jose Aldo, Michael Bisping, Daniel Cormier, Dominick Cruz, Junior dos Santos, Urijah Faber. Benson Henderson, Johny Hendricks, Demetrious Johnson, Ronda Rousey, Miesha Tate and Chris Weidman.
Fans can cast their final round votes for at www.ufc.com/covervote. The final round of voting ends Dec. 1, with the winner joining Jones on the cover.
