George Roop meets newcomer Rob Font at UFC 175 in Las Vegas

The UFC’s Independence Day weekend pay-per-view has its latest fight, as recently signed newcomer Rob Font now has his opponent.

Font (10-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC) will meet veteran George Roop (15-10-1 MMA, 5-6 UFC) in a bantamweight bout at UFC 175. Font’s management team announced the fight on Thursday.

The UFC has not yet made an official announcement of the fight, which will be the ninth bout on the card, which is just three weeks away. UFC 175 takes place July 5 at Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. The main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and, likely, UFC Fight Pass.

Roop has been on a nice run with three wins in his past four fights. After a two-fight skid, he took a unanimous decision from Reuben Duran at UFC 158, then just two months later stopped Brian Bowles with a second-round TKO at UFC 160. He suffered a TKO loss to Francisco Rivera at the UFC’s third “Fight for the Troops†show this past November, but bounced back in April with a decision win over Dustin Kimura at the TUF Nations Finale.

Font will bring a nine-fight winning streak into his UFC debut, which sees him drop to 135 pounds from featherweight. Included in his run are a pair of first-round finishes in 2014. His resume includes six stoppage wins in his 10 career victories. Font’s lone loss, more than two years ago, came at the hands of Bellator standout Desmond Green, but he also holds a win over Bellator veteran Saul Almeida. Font trains at the famed Sityodtong school with coach Mark DellaGrotte.

The latest UFC 175 card includes:

Champ Chris Weidman vs. Lyoto Machida – for middleweight title
Champ Ronda Rousey vs. Alexis Davis – for women’s bantamweight title
Alex Caceres vs. Urijah Faber
Matt Mitrione vs. Stefan Struve
Uriah Hall vs. Thiago “Marreta†Santos
Chris Camozzi vs. Bruno Santos
Guilherme Vasconcelos vs. Luke Zachrich
Ildemar Alcantara vs. Kenny Robertson
Rob Font vs. George Roop
