Former Strikeforce light heavyweight champion Gegard Mousasi will likely be returning to Strikeforce. After a controversial draw with Keith Jardine in June, Mousasi went back over to Japan to fight in Dream, and picked up a win over Hiroshi Izumi in July. According to MMA Junkie though, he will be making the trip back over here before the end of the year:

The Dutch-Armenian fighter has been targeted to fight on an as-yet-unannounced Strikeforce card set for Dec. 17, a source close to the fighter confirmed to www.mmajunkie.com. An opponent has yet to be named for the event, which is currently without a city and venue.

One fight that is extremely unlikely for Mousasi is a rematch with Jardine. Jardine expects to compete on that same December 17th card, but is going to cut to middleweight for the bout. There are few different candidates to fight Mousasi though, and he should get a top opponent. The card is expected to be headlined by a lightweight title fight between Gilbert Melendez and Jorge Masvidal.

Mousasi signed a two-year, four-fight contract extension with Strikeforce in April 2010, shortly before he lost his title to "King" Mo Lawal. The Lawal fight was a not part of that contract extension (it was the last fight on his original three-fight deal), so he currently has three fights left on his extension. It seems extremely likely that the time clause will expire before he gets all his fights in.
