Last year Epic Games filed a trademark for the title Gears of War: Exile. Hope you didn't spend too much time speculating over the game's contents because Epic says that they'll cancelled it.
"Let's just bury the hatchet now. Gears of War: Exile was an unannounced game that I can't give any details about that has since been cancelled," Epic Games design director Cliff Bleszinski told GameSpot this weekend.
Exile was rumored to be a Gears spin-off that supported Kinect - sort of like Fable: The Journey. Last year I guessed that it was an iOS game; after all, Epic proved with Infinity Blade that Unreal Engine could work on a mobile device. Guess we'll never know how wrong I was.
Epic has yet to announce the next Gears game. Considering how well-received the trilogy was, it seems likely the series will continue. Gears 3 completed the current story arc, though, so we might have to wait a while for a new installment.
Rumor has it that Epic's subsidiary People Can Fly will develop a prequel trilogy for Gears. Exile was probably meant to tide fans over until then. Again, though, we'll never know.
