I am not going to go in to an extreme amount of detail, I just wanted to do a series where I share my thoughts on games I have played. I want to avoid spoilers as well, and, sometimes, things can be hard to explain without telling way too much of the story, so, just want to keep it simple and just talk about my experience playing these games. Obviously, there are pages like wiki if you really want to learn far more details. I guess this is more my gaming journal.

Days Gone

Released: 2019
Platform: PS4
Genre: Survival horror, action adventure
Plot: Two years after the beginning of a pandemic (so, basically, we are a year away now from this game's events, amirite), Deacon St. John, fearing his wife, Sarah, has been dead this entire time, discovers that she may be alive and sets out in the dangerous setting of Oregon to find out what happened to her after he sent her to get medical attention on a helicopter due to her being attacked back when the pandemic first began, as humanity started getting violent, and comes face to face with old allies, shady new characters and the creatures with thirst for kills.

I ended up late on this one, I skipped it until earlier this year, mostly because when it came out, I was waiting for reviews, and then I forgot all about it. It became available on the PlayStation store for $19.99 during a sale and, being a big Resident Evil fan, I had to give this game a go, as it looked to have some similarities.

It took me about 30-40 minutes in to really start getting attached to the game. It just starts off a bit slow, but, once the story got going, I was absolutely hooked. I barely interacted with humans in the time it took to play this game. I was on covid voluntary lay off from work, so, it was basically jammies and Days Gone all day, every day. I felt they really did the characters well and you got to know each one of them personally, which at times played with your emotions. Not a lot of things in the world tug at my heartstrings, but, this game had flashbacks to Sarah and Deacon's lives before the pandemic, and I'd be lying my ass off if I said it didn't make my eyes look like I cut onions.

Deacon and Sarah

This game contains multiple different infected (basically, fast zombies, as well as wolves, etc.) who mostly hang out in hordes, which are groups of them that can range from small to extremely large (in to the 100's). Most of the hordes weren't that bad, took maybe a few minutes to get through them, but, the few that are in the 100's were utter ass. Make sure you load up on weapons (weapons that explode are the best) and practice your dodging, that is going to help A LOT. The infected are fast, and, once one sees you, the entire horde comes your way, surrounds you, and kills you, so, you need to be strategic and quick on your feet. I died a million times before learning what the hell I needed to do to beat the hordes. They can climb as well, and, sound attracts them, so, in some areas, you also have to shoot the speakers so you wont get their attention. Your anxiety level in this game will be unreal, I was incredibly tense at times far beyond my comfort level, but, I enjoyed every second of it. There are perks as well, there is one that slows down time for a brief period, it's a big help when things get harder.

Running from a horde

One of my favorite things about this game is the scenery. The lush forests of Oregon made my eyes orgasm, it was just so beautiful. The small towns, the camps, the hills, they were so well done and really captured the feeling of being there for me. The tunnels are dark and creepy, I felt uneasy going through each of them, with much of it hidden in shadows until you get closer. The snowy mountains were so peaceful and, though I normally hate winter, the beauty of it in this game displays the quiet still of the mountainside and the chill of the rivers while snow calmly falls from the sky. Couldn't find a picture of the snowy areas that wasn't utterly gigantic, but, google images has a few shots, not many, though.

Days Gone is easily down as one of the best games I have ever played. I did platinum this game, it's not super hard to do, it just really takes time because some of the things you need to do (such as unlock weapons, perks, etc) relies on XP. There are, I believe it was 40, hordes, which are shown on your map after you complete the game. You do not have to wipe them all out (you can to get a skin for your motorcycle, I didn't care), but, you need to tackle enough to purchase all the skills and such to get the particular trophies. Other than a few tedious ones, the rest are not really ball busters. Fighting the hordes can get boring, there are 3 that are in the storyline, so, you can't avoid them, the others, you can drive away from and come back later, if you want. That was really the only downfall for me, and occasionally running out of ammo and weapons, which was my own damn fault for not stocking up. Great graphics, great characters, great storyline.

Very underrated game. Glad you enjoyed it.

I can't wait until I get a PS5 and can play it at 60FPS. That will be sweet.
