Gable Steveson plans to use his final year of NCAA eligibility.

The two-time national heavyweight champion confirmed with FloWrestling that he is hoping to resume his collegiate wrestling career next year.

Flowrestling wrote:

Steveson still has to sort out scheduling details with the WWE before his return is official, but if all goes according to plan, he will be back on the NCAA mat next season.
Last week, Steveson told Sports Illustrated that his WWE debut is coming sooner than people expect.

Steveson said:

I have changed my diet, my body appearance. I wanted to be the best thing ever so when I did go on TV, it was going to be a sight that nobody has seen before. My time is coming and it's coming sooner than a lot of people think.

Steveson has also said he hopes to compete at the 2024 Paris Olympics. He told KSTB Sports that he has yet to receive approval from WWE to enter the competition. However, Steveson said they were "making great strides" in making that happen.

Steveson returned to amateur wrestling at the 2023 US Open Wrestling Championships in April. He was named the tournament's most outstanding wrestler after going 4-0 and outscoring his opponents 44-1. He then defeated Mason Parris at Final X earlier this month. Steveson plans to represent Team USA at the World Championships in Serbia this September as well.

Steveson last appeared on WWE programming on December 9, 2022, as part of Kurt Angle's birthday celebration on SmackDown.

He’s fucking boring and proved he had no business being a wrestler, no charisma or anything.

Unless you follow amatuer wrestling, any assessment of his skills are dubious at best.

You talking outta pocket if you think him just waving to a few crowds and throwing perfect suplexes twice is a gauge on his entire package.

The possibly greatest wrestler in the history of the sport has no business being a wrestler :nowords

I wasn’t impressed by what I saw but it wasn’t enough to really make a judgment call yet. I need to see him get into it before I decide.

Gable Steveson is returning to the mats.

United World Wrestling announced the participants for the 2023 World Championships, and Gable Steveson was among the competitors listed in freestyle wrestling. The tournament is set to be held from September 16 to September 24.

From UWW:
At 125kg, Gable STEVESON (USA) is set to return after a substantial absence. The 21-year-old sensation made waves at the Tokyo Olympic Games, stunning the wrestling community with his triumph. He managed to defeat now-reigning world champion Taha AKGUL (TUR) and three-time world champion Geno PETRIASHVILI (GEO) en route to Olympic glory.

Following his Olympic gold, Steveson took a brief retirement from wrestling to pursue a career in WWE. However, he has since added another Olympic gold to his aspirations.

During Steveson's absence, young contender Amir ZARE (IRI) has emerged as a dominant figure in the weight class. Zare claimed world gold in Oslo before relinquishing the crown to Rio Olympic champion Akgul in Belgrade. A highly anticipated clash between Zare and Steveson is eagerly awaited by fans after numerous exchanges on social media.

Steveson won the Olympic Gold Medal in freestyle wrestling 2020 and won gold in the 2017 Junior World Championships.

Steveson made his in-ring debut for WWE at NXT Great American Bash, going to a double count out with Baron Corbin.

It is unknown when Steveson will return to the WWE ring.

He’s obviously going to come back. And he’s going to get pushed.

I think it’s inevitable
