Former UFC veteran Marcus Davis will look to extend his post-UFC win streak when he returns to action on September 23rd to headline a Global Fight League event in Portland, ME.
Davis, a Maine native, will face Massachusetts fighter Josh Hersey (3-2).
Since Davis (19-8) was cut from the UFC after a loss to Jeremy Stephens at January's UFC 125, he has won two straight fights in Canada's Maximum Fighting Championships with decision victories over Curtis Demarce and Pete Spratt, respectively. Hersey is coming off a September 2010 loss to John Benoit at GFL 9.
The 37-year-old spent nearly five years in the UFC, compiling a 9-6 mark over two stints. After a six-fight win streak from late-2006 to early-2008, Davis lost a decision to Mike Swick at UFC 85 and then rebounded with victories over Paul Kelly and Chris Lytle. After consecutive losses to Dan Hardy and Ben Saunders, Davis defeated Jonathan Goulet by 2nd round TKO before defeats to Nate Diaz and Stephens signaled his exit.
