Dana White: Following cheap shot, UFC 113's Paul Daley won't fight in the UFC again
by John Morgan and Dann Stupp on May 09, 2010 at 1:30 am ET
MONTREAL – Following a post-fight cheap shot that tagged opponent Josh Koscheck, welterweight Paul Daley will never fight in the Ultimate Fighting Championship again.

That's the word from UFC president Dana White, who condemned the veteran fighter's actions following the pay-per-view fight.

In Saturday's UFC 113 co-main event at Montreal's Bell Centre, Daley threw a post-fight punch after losing a unanimous decision to Koscheck.

The loss cost Daley a coaching spot on "The Ultimate Fighter 12" and a title shot with champion Georges St-Pierre.

The late blow, however, cost him any shot at a future in the UFC.

"He's done," White said after the event. "I don't give a [expletive] if he's the best 170-pounder in the world. He'll never come back here again.

"There's no excuse for that. These guys are professional athletes. You don't ever hit a guy blatantly after the bell like that, whether you're frustrated or not. It was probably one of the dumbest things I've ever seen because he is a talented guy, and he is one of the best 170-pounders in the world."

Daley also is likely to face a suspension and fine, though Montreal's athletic commission won't rule on the matter for another couple days.

Koscheck, a four-time NCAA Division I All-American wrestler who also won a national championship, used takedowns and a stifling top game to win the decision. Even as they physically fought, Koscheck and Daley continued sparring verbally throughout the bout. The fighters both talked big heading into the bout and engaged in an intense staredown at Friday's weigh-ins.

Following the bout's conclusion, Daley got to his feet and tagged Koscheck with the cheap shot. Referee Dan Miragliotta immediately pinned him against the cage and chided the cheap shot.

"I don't care if he fights in every show all over the world and becomes the best and everybody thinks he's the best pound-for-pound best in the world, he will never fight in the UFC ever again," White said. "He's done."

White said Daley offered little explanation for his actions other than to say he "didn't hear the bell."

Daley, a British fighter who previously competed with organizations such as Cage Rage and EliteXC, signed with the UFC in 2009 and entered the No. 1 contender's bout with Koscheck after knockout wins over contenders Martin Kampmann and Dustin Hazelett. The loss to Koscheck snapped a four-fight win streak.

I know this was discussed in the UFC 113 topic, but I thought it deserved it's own thread. Daley is a bullshitter if I have ever seen one. Lame ass excuse, he knew he lost and was so pissed about it. Not professional to say the least.

It kinda scared me when he punched kos, but the ref. man-handled Daley. That brought out a few laughs.

Saying bush league may not be enough. That's the kind of shit you see in a movie. Good riddance, let him cry in his creatine for Strikeforce.

lol koscheck was smiling when he was struggling against the ref. He's a true professional, probably made the best comment you could to a black brit (Not being racist, but you want the other guy mad at you, see this fight as an example mang)

selling the illegal knee was smart. IMO It'd be stupid to pretend nothing happened. That knee was fucking vicious and it would of been ridiculous to see him gain position over koscheck over it. Koscheck did the right thing by selling it as if he got hit. If that knee would of connected that could of gave Koscheck a concussion and give Ontario and New york an actual example of human cockfighting.

We probably seen such a boring fight because Daley couldn't keep his cool and when you got a BRIT (BRITS CANT WRESTLE FYI, LIKE NONE OF EM CAN, NO IDEA WHAT WRESTLING IS) ANYWAY, you got a young cocky athlete who doesn't know any better, RAGING not keeping his cool foaming from the mouth not headhunting, but certainly wants a street fight instead of a MMA match, I too would use my SUPERB AND ARGUABLY THE BEST WRESTLING AT THE WEIGHT CLASS to stifle my opponent while also using my HIGHLY TOUTED IMPROVED STRIKING ABILITY WITH KNOWN KNOCKOUT POWER ONLY TO KEEP THE RAGE GOING WHILE YOUR COLLECTING POINTS.

FUCKING IT SOUNDS LIKE I'M DESCRIBING A HEEL IN WRESTLING. fuck ya

Koscheck GSP NEXT ULTIMATE FIGHTER IS GOING TO BE FUCKING AMAAAAAAAAAAAAZING

I bet Strikeforce isn't going to give him a shot anytime soon. They are not that stupid. I think he's done in MMA. He has been figured out already and any well rounded fighter will just take him down again and again.

What a douche. He wanted to start the trash talk but couldn't back it up and got pissed. What a typical bully who got stood up.

I just watched the event, and bloody hell, Koscheck feigning the knee to the face was hilarious.

Daley had this to say to the telegraph

I’ve had a long flight home to consider my actions and regret the mistake I made on Saturday. I would like to apologise to the UFC and the Athletic Commission for what I’ve done as well as all the fans and sponsors that support me ... I would also like to offer my sincerest apologies to Josh Koscheck who did not deserve the cheap shot I threw. He did what he needed to do in order to win the fight and get the job done, and I foolishly reacted to the situation.

I don't care if he had a PR company write that up for him or not. To me, it sounded genuine and I think he's learnt. I've never liked him but you have to respect it take guts to offer an apology that sounds sincere (unlike a certain Ben Rothelisberger).
