Hi all, it has been some time since i posted on the forum, or watched any WWE in general. I stopped watching the weekly shows, and PPV's (excluding Wrestlemania and Royal Rumble) after WM 34. The biggest problems for me (among many others) were WWE's unwillingness to build new stars, and the overly scripted, uninspired wrestlers. Which is a damn shame, because the company has never been filled with this amount of talented workers, but what does it matter when they all talk the same, and wrestle the same spots, I.E. spam superkicks and suicide dives to the point where they are more common than basic punches. The promo work is also god awful, for the most part. Every babyface sounds the same, and every heel sounds the same, plus any type of originality or character a wrestler previously had just vanishes in the vacuum of the main roster. For instance I really liked Finn Balor when he was in NXT. Sure he was never a great promo, but he had an aura about him even without the demon part of his character, he was edgy. On the main roster however he is a smiling, cringe inducing midget who only talks about how he was the first ever Universal Champion, and how size isn't everything. In the end the problems got to big for me, and I decided to end my misery, so I stopped watching Raw and Smackdown all together. Every now and again I would check out some Youtube clips that peeked my interest, but none of them were enough to pull me back.
That is until I came across the Bray Wyatt firefly fun house segments, and needless to say I loved them! The way the segments switched from cheesy to unsettling, to downright horrifying was absolutely brilliant. I can honestly say that this is the best character work I have seen out of WWE in a decade, and it reminded me why I like wrestling. You can't find this type of wacky shit anywhere else, and it wouldn't work anywhere else. It is exclusive to wrestling, and that's why I loved it so much. Major props to my man Bray for pulling off such a crazy role, he was great in every aspect. This new character is leaps and bounds above the eater of worlds shtick. Not to say that he didn't play that character great, but he took himself way too seriously, and didn't have the wins to back it up. This is much better overall, since he still keeps that serious side (which is now 10 times more scary and intimidating) while also adding a wacky side, and showcasing his incredible range in character work.
Ever since I saw these segments I have been more active in following the product, and over the past few weeks it has been improving very SLOWLY. I love the appearances of the fiend. The lightning and sound effects are awesome, and the mask looks legit terrifying. My only thought going forward is, Vince KEEP YOUR SENILE HANDS AWAY FROM THIS!
