NORTHAMPTON, MA (WSHM) - Armed and dangerous is how FBI officials have characterized 33-year-old Daniel Andreas San Diego, the first domestic terrorism suspect added to the FBI's Most Wanted Terrorist List in April 2009.
"One of the FBI's most wanted terrorists, Daniel Andreas San Diego may be in the Northampton, Massachusetts area," said FBI Boston Bureau Special Agent in Charge, Richard DesLauriers.
A strict vegan and animal rights extremist, San Diego is responsible for two bombings in the San Francisco area targeting animal experimentation facilities. Two bombs exploded on Aug. 28, 2003, outside Chiron Life Science center in Emeryville, California. Less than a month later San Diego struck again, this time a bomb made with metal nails exploded outside a company based in Pleasanton, California.
"Fortunately no one died in the explosions, but property damage was extensive. In 2003, a federal arrest warrant was issued in California for Mr. San Diego," said DesLauriers.
San Diego has not been seen since. But today the FBI Boston bureau is asking for the public's help. After Daniel Andreas San Diego's case appeared on the show America's Most Wanted, the first promising lead in nearly a decade came in. FBI officials could not describe the nature of that tip.
San Diego is 6' tall around 160 pounds with prominent tattoos of burning buildings on his abdomen and back. He has been known to alter his appearance.
"It is also very important for the public to know that Mr. San Diego's alleged history of making improvised explosive devices considers him a risk to himself and the public. Mr. San Diego should be considered armed and dangerous," said DesLauriers.
The FBI now tells CBS 3 Springfield that both their Boston and San Francisco offices have received a number of leads related to the whereabouts of Mr. San Diego.
The FBI says it's the media coverage and public participation that is key to bringing cases like these to a close and encourage viewers to call in a tip, even if they think it may not amount to anything. each lead could be a critical piece of the puzzle to solve the case.
If you have any information you are being urged to contact the FBI's Boston Bureau.
Kind of a little freaked out by this, as i live about 50 miles from North Hampton.
