Extreme Championship Wrestling, I have to say, was once my favourite promotion in the world of wrestling…. I personally believe ECW put the attitude era into wrestling which certainly benefited WWF and WCW through the ‘ Monday Night Wars ’ that went on for many years…. I thought long and hard of what sort of BTB I should do. WCW jumped into my head as I was also a fan of that, WWF and WWE as imagined also jumped into my head and I was sure it would be a WWE BTB I would do but finally I came to my decision to do a BTB on what I loved and what I loved was ECW!!!

Extreme Championship Wrestling 2001

Extreme Championship Wrestling, the wrestling promotion that changed the wrestling world for good, the wrestling promotion that showed organisations like the WWF, like WCW how to go all out and be Hardcore… ECW known as the promotion that brought the ‘ Attitude Era ’ into professional wrestling…. It cannot be argued that Extreme Championship Wrestling had their good times, some which were very good but it also cannot be argued that Extreme Championship Wrestling had their bad times, some very bad times finally forcing ECW to closure

Anyway… Eastern Championship Wrestling as it was known until Shane Douglas after winning the NWA World Championship placed it into the bin and announced himself as the first E CW Champion…. Eastern Championship Wrestling before this was formed by Todd Gordon in Philadelphia ….. Like said before this was the case until Shane Douglas changed it

Paul Heyman… also known as ECW came in as head booker in the year of 1995... He had a totally different look on wrestling than what Mr McMahon, Eric Bischoff, Vince Russo did… Paul Heyman seen an extreme side of wrestling, a so called ‘ Dark Side ’ of wrestling that had never been let out before but it was soon to be….

For years and years after Paul Heyman became head booker and the name was changed to Extreme! ECW quickly became the third brand in wrestling behind WCW and the WWF who were going threw the Monday night wars at this time… ECW in not a lot of time had moved from a small independent wrestling promotion to like said before, knowing as the third best wrestling promotion but the thing that was stopping ECW from taking that next level was the lack of finances, resources and many different things….. This wasn’t noticeable at first as for the first time ever in April 1997, this month brought ECWs first ever pay-per-view, Barely Legal….. ECW looked like they weren’t looking back from this point but sadly this was not the case….

With the hot demand of superstars as WWF and WCW were desperately trying to bring in more talent to gain momentum over their rivals, this saw ECW lose out on so many rising stars, the stars that maybe could have took ECW to the next level… who was to know? ECW roster just got weaker and weaker from their on… Paul Heymans skills of producing stars to top ECW what he had done in the past with, the likes off, The Dudley Boys, Tazz and all of the other young stars…. The ECW Roster was now incredibly weak and with lack of sources, ECW were clearly not in the state to go out and offer high wages to big time talent…..Storylines were tried which saw ECW invade WWF…. And other storylines…..

With attendances to the weekly show and the popularity of the promotion at an all-time high it seemed that nothing could be done and nothing would help the ever falling ECW…. As ECW approached 2001, they were at a low if we are talking about the depth In talent of the roster, the availability of money but surprisingly if you are talking about popularity ECW was up their with the best of them especially after the ending of WCW v WWF Monday night wards….. In January 2001, the big names in ECW read stars like Tommy Dreamer, Rhyno and Rob Van Dam…. This was a huge drop from where ECW used to be with talent such as Chris Jericho, Chris Benoit, Eddie Guerreo, Rey Mysterio JR and so many, many more great talent…

Extreme Championship Wrestling was finally ended due to bankruptcy, this was announced by the man, people say made it what it was, Paul Heyman… maybe the hardest announcement he had ever had to make and the hardest one Extremists round the world had to hear…. WWE now use ECW as a brand but it is nowhere near what it was back in the day!

Was ECW finally over?, was the wrestling company that brought Extreme to the wrestling world finally over? Was the company that brought the Attitude era to the world of professional wrestling finally over….. Well IRL it was but people, this ain’t real life….. So here we go, I leave you to wonder what happened from now on and you are about to find out

After the announcement of the ending of ECW, Paul Heyman who was head booker of ECW began working non-stop to get ECW back …. With financial problems, it was made clear that he would need a financial backer or someone that can help money wise in ECW….. After weeks of working to get ECW back, it was finally done, a financial backer was put in place and ECW looked like they were back but how long for? ECW would live on through 2001 and Paul Heyman would be hoping for more time afterwards, Another thing that was letting ECW down was due to the lack of trust in ECW from TV companies, ECW were stuck with Syndicated TV Shows…. Would ECW live on?

ECW Guilty As Charged 2001

Cyrus & Jerry Lynn def Joey Matthews & Christian York

Danny Doring & Roadkill def Hot Commodity to remain ECW Tag Team Champions

Nova def Chris Hamrick

Tommy Dreamer def C.W. Anderson in a I Quit Match

So their you all have it, these are the results from Guilty Charged… the rosters will be posted later on due to this post getting pretty long, this will be followed by news and such… thanks!

I recall seeing one of your past BTB's and it's great to see you back. Now to the review of your backstory and such.

I have to say that I'm glad that you picked a company that you loved to make your BTB out of. Hopefully, this will give you added incentive to stick around. I like your backstory and the results to Guilty As Charged looks pretty good. I'll be checking back for updates. Feel free to check out The Commencement and post your predictions for WrestleMania. Later, dude.

ECW Update.Com

For months and months before the announcement was made.. We heard repeated rumours stating that fact, that Extreme Championship Wrestling would close due to bankruptcy… this came true but we can now tell you exclusively here first, that ECW is coming back… ECW head booker Paul Heyman has been working tirelessly to stop ECW from going under but under the financial strains and the fact that ECW superstars such as Rob Van Dam, Tommy Dreamer and much more talent have opportunities to go to the WWF and other better promotions…. With the last show meant to be ECW Guilty as Charged, we can now tell you here that thanks to Paul Heyman, that infact is false…. ECW will be back and Paul Heyman will be trying his hardest to get them back to the position they once were… Paul Heyman obviously due to the financial worries has had to get a Financial backer… whoever, that financial backer may be is not knowing yet but soon will… we assume

With no word yet from Paul Heyman on the return of ECW… ECW fans and the media are left wondering, what ECW will get to? And most people are really doubting it can get to the highs it was once at… from having a real indepth roster, to now have a very frail roster with not so much talent, it is going to be hard…. Paul Heyman will also have to work his ass off to keep some of these superstars, like named before Rob Van Dam and Tommy Dreamer due to the increasing interest from the bigger companies of wrestling, such as, the WWF

ECW so far, have failed to get back onto a network TV station and from now until whenever they can strike the deal, they will only be shown on Syndication which will host their weekly show, ECW Hardcore TV…. With this being said, Paul Heyman and other management in ECW no how important it is to try and get ECW back onto a network station for many obvious reasons, some of these reasons being, big time superstars arent going to want to stay on a show that doesn’t have their shows out live on national television and also, you will not receive as great amount of ratings as ECW used to receive

Back onto the superstars, we can tell you that a source from ECW has stated that ECW are looking to bring back some of their superstars from the past, ECW Originals, they are also looking around to string a deal up with some Indy wrestlers, wrestlers with no contracts and they are looking hugely into the market of Mexican, Japanese and countries such as these for the new up and coming talent

Another report that has came out of ECW, is the fact that they may be looking to distance themselves from Sex, Drugs and real violence… this is not great news for ECW fans, extremists and so on but if ECW want back on National Television, this is a factor they may just have to deal with

Their will be more news in the future… out!

Hopefully this last since you currently have 3 btb threads still open including this.

Thanks for the feeback so far. Just like to say that due to my exams at the moment it may take a few weeks to get shows up but i will be posting weekly updates and such

If you knew these exams would get in the way as soon as you starteed this and not after a few months in why didn't you just wait until after the exams.

One problem I have with update is that RVD and Dreamer along with any origianal would have accepted Heymans deal straight away, they all lived for that company and would risk there lives to make it work.

OK to answer your questions. I started this BTB because i wanted to. I don't know how i have BTBs open as i haven't been on this site in absolute ages

Also, RVD was at this time owed lots and lots of money from ECW and with WWE/F about it wouldn't have been an obvious decision. Also men like Dreamer and such were all open to WWE/F offers. And, ECW had not guaranteed their money yet so either go to the WWE and get paid good money or stick it out rough with ECW. I can guarantee they would have went with the money

ECW Update.com

AS we reported to all you fans earlier in the week, ECW is now back, the last time we reported, no one was quite sure in what state they come back in, how long they are going to last, and is it Paul Heymans love for the company that makes him think that he can get ECW back and that he really has no chance, just his love taking him to far or is it actually, that with the financial backer and if they can get back onto national television, then they may be back to being branded in the top three or maybe even, with WCW or WWF set to fall, ECW if they get back to their heights could surely at least get to the top two in the wrestling world… we are here to give you more news regarding superstars coming in, superstars leaving and the financial backer of ECW

First of all, lets start on the state of ECW…. We can tell you, that after talking to people behind the scenes at ECW and sources of our own… we can inform you, that yes! Maybe ECW will be able to get back to their best… the new financial backer of the company, whoever that may be, his name is still nameless to the world… is said to have put around 2million pound straight into Heymans hand and has told him to go out and get ECW back to the way it was…. The Financial backer has also paid off superstars that were due money from ECW such as The Sandman, Tommy Dreamer, Rob Van Damn and some other superstars that have been left nameless… this really does seem a bit of good news for ECW

Regarding the superstars in ECW and who ECW will look to bring in, we can tell you that they have already sent scouts who they have brought in over to Mexico were it is thought there is some great talent… Paul Heyman, head booker of ECW has also made contact to many former ECW Superstars such as Sabu….. It is not known if Sabu will come back but we can confirm that Paul Heyman or someone at ECW has contacted him about the possibility of returning…. We can also confirm that ECW have held talks with several Indy superstars and superstars out of contract who used to be part of ECW… one of the names let out is Juventud Guerrera….. The other names have not been let out yet but as soon as we find out anything we will inform you all

Paul Heyman who spoke for the first time yesterday at a press conference about the return of ECW was asked many different questions, one question mostly asked was about ECW and TV…. Paul Heyman said that they are only on Syndicated TV at the moment but they are looking as of the now to get a national television programme, the hot favourite at the moment is MTV….. ECW fans are not sure about MTV but at the minute it is looking like the only option… Another bit of information is that ECW weekly shows from now on will be called ECW Hardcore TV but this is only until they find a national television network station and then it will be named after that I.E. if ECW gets moved to MTV, it will be named ECW on MTV…. This is knowing thanks to a Paul Heyman at yesterdays press conference

The new look rosters have been released and their isn’t really any surprises as the roster pretty much reads what was the roster before the announcement of ECW bankruptcy… ECW fans will be glad to see such names as Rob Van Dam, Rhino and Tommy Dreamer are all still on the roster…. ECW have also announced 12 events, one to be held each month however not all will be pay-per-view, some knowing as Super cards and the first event we can tell you, will be a super card and it will be ECW Cyberslam…… We can also inform you that the ECW Champions have all stayed the same as expected and everything else is pretty much the same

ECW Hardcore TV will debut back starting next Thursday night, they have been giving one hour a week on Thursday nights by Syndicated TV…. ECW have also made it clear that they really wont need much negotiations to agree a deal with a national TV network

We will update you all with more news, as soon as we get it here at ECW Updates.COM

OK… so there you have it, this will be my last bit of news for a while, I am currently not sure when the return of ECW will be up but it wont be long… thanks for everyone who keeps on reading and I will rep everyone who comments along with a return to their show!

It is good to see this going. It was an interesting update and I want to see which company helped ECW, or if that will be relevant to some sort of storyline. I also want to see your complete roster, but I guess I will have to wait some more for such details.

CHeck out BTW, show has been posted
