Ernest Chavez vs. Elias Silverio added to UFC Fight Night 42 in Brazil
A pair of unbeaten lightweights have been matched up for the UFC’s May trip to Brazil.
Ernest Chavez (7-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC) takes on Brazil’s Elias Silverio (10-0 MMA, 2-0 UFC) at UFC Fight Night 42 in Brazil. Promotion officials announced the new bout on Wednesday.
UFC Fight Night 42 takes place at Ibirapuera Gymnasium in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The event will be headlined by a fight between current “TUF: Brazil 3″ coaches Wanderlei Silva and Chael Sonnen.
Chavez is coming off a split-decision win in his UFC debut against Yosdenis Cedeno at UFC 170 in February in Las Vegas. The Californian prior to that had a 6-0 start to his career with three stoppages, including two in a row in 2013 when he got the call from the UFC.
Silverio made his UFC debut this past September and picked up a unanimous decision win over Joao Zeferino at UFC Fight Night 28 in his home country. In January, he stayed unbeaten when he beat Isaac Vallie-Flagg at UFC Fight Night 35 in Georgia, just his second fight outside of Brazil. Now he’ll return to his home city of Sao Paulo to meet Chavez.
With the addition to the lineup, UFC Fight Night 42 now includes:
Wanderlei Silva vs. Chael Sonnen
Paulo Thiago vs. Gasan Umalatov
Mark Eddiva vs. Edimilson Souza
Ernest Chavez vs. Elias Silverio
