When it was announced that UFC featherweight champ Jose Aldo had been injured and forced to withdraw from UFC 149, the question of what to do with his opponent, Erik Koch, was raised.
Initially, the UFC mentioned that the bout would be postponed. Today, MMAWeekly reports that that decision stands: Koch will sit on the sidelines while Aldo recovers from his undisclosed injury.

There has still been no word as to the specifics of Aldo's injuries, but rumors indicate that it won't be keeping him out of action for very long.

Regardless, it's very possible that the bout's postponement will see Koch out of action for a year, since his last performance came against Jonathan Brookins last September. Koch was expected to face Dustin Poirier at some point after that, but was forced out of the fight himself with an injury.

Aldo last appeared in action this past January, where knocked out the last (and only) man to beat Koch, Chad Mendes, at UFC 142 in defense of his featherweight title.

With Aldo vs. Koch off of the UFC 149 fight card, the interim bantamweight title fight between Urijah Faber and Renan Barao has been moved from the UFC 148 co-main event to the top of the UFC 149 lineup.

Even though I'm not really a fan of this match up whenever it does happen, i do feel for the guy. I mean he was in his first main event title fight and now has to wait even loner to get the opportunity. Don't blame him at all for sitting out and waiting for Aldo to recover.

Pretty much  would like to see Jose drop the title honestly, but don't think that's going to happen until Frankie Edgar comes down to 145.

then when Edgar goes in for a takedown he gets nailed with a knee and finished. Aldo isn't losing... he needs to move up in weight :p

lol @ sitting it out as if he actually earned this shot.

I hope Dana says "fuck you, guy" and gives the shot to Zombie instead, like should of happened in the first place.

Since there isn't a long delay I don't mind fighters waiting for the champion but like you said it isn't really like he earnt this title fight. He was pretty lucky to get the title shot and he isn't the overwhelming clear number one contender.
