Producers Paula Mazur and Mitchell Kaplan have acquired the screen rights to Jennifer Niven’s debut YA “All the Bright Places†with Elle Fanning attached to star.
The novel will be published by Alfred A. Knopf, an imprint of Random House Children’s Books, on January 6, 2015. It was acquired in a two-book pre-empt and will be edited by Allison Wortche, senior editor, Alfred A. Knopf Books for Young Readers.
The book is a love story told in alternating voices about a girl who learns to live from a boy who intends to die. When Violet and Finch meet atop the bell tower at school, a unique bond is formed, and an unspoken promise made: stop counting the days and start living them.
“Jennifer is such a gifted writer, and we are thrilled to be publishing her YA debut,†says Wortche. “All the Bright Places is a beautiful, heart-wrenching story, and readers are going to fall in love with Violet and Finch. They’re funny, quirky, irresistible, and impossible to forget.â€
Even though the book hasn’t been published yet, the title drew heavy buzz at this year’s Bologna Book Fair causing buyers to take a hard look at the material.
International publishing deals were made by Jocelyn Lange, Associate Director, Foreign Rights, Random House Children’s Books.
Fanning was most recently seen in the hit Disney pic “Maleficent.†She is repped by WME, Echo Lake Management, and Hansen Jacobson.
Sylvie Rabineau of RWSG Literary brokered the film deal on behalf of book agent Kerry Sparks at Levine Greenberg Rostan Literary.
