Edimilson 'Kevin' Souza meets Mark Eddiva at UFC Fight Night 42 in Brazil
The UFC is starting to build its May return to South America with the addition of a featherweight bout.
Mark Eddiva (6-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC) will meet Brazil’s Edimilson Souza (14-3 MMA, 1-0 UFC) at UFC Fight Night 42 in Brazil. Promotion officials announced the new bout on Wednesday, saying verbal agreements are in place.
UFC Fight Night 42 takes place at Ibirapuera Gymnasium in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The event will be headlined by a fight between current “TUF: Brazil 3″ coaches Wanderlei Silva and Chael Sonnen.
Eddiva, from the Philippines, made his UFC debut earlier this month in Macau and picked up a unanimous decision win over Jumabieke Tuerxun. That kept him unbeaten in his pro career, but was the first time he had to go the distance after five stoppages, four of which came in the first round. The fight was his first in more than three years – he competed one in 2006, once in 2007, twice in 2009 and once in 2011 before signing with the UFC.
“Kevin†Souza also is coming off a win in his UFC debut. This past September at UFC Fight Night 28 in his home country of Brazil, he picked up a split-decision win over Felipe Arantes. And like Eddiva, that was his first time as a pro going to the judges’ scorecards. Before signing with the UFC, he had a seven-fight winning streak – all by knockout. In total, 12 of his 14 wins are by knockout or TKO.
With the addition to the lineup, UFC Fight Night 42 now includes:
Wanderlei Silva vs. Chael Sonnen
Paulo Thiago vs. Gasan Umalatov
Mark Eddiva vs. Edimilson Souza
