Eddie Wineland vs. Johnny Eduardo slated for UFC Fight Night in Cincinnati
Despite a 3-1 run, recent UFC title challenger Eddie Wineland, who’s ranked No. 4 in the latest USA TODAY Sports/MMAjunkie MMA bantamweight rankings, will face a sizable underdog in his next bout.
UFC officials today announced that Wineland (21-9-1 MMA, 3-3 UFC), a former WEC champion who’s revived his career in the UFC, will meet fellow bantamweight Johnny Eduardo (26-9 MMA, 1-1 UFC) at UFC Fight Night in Cincinnati.
The event, likely to be UFC Fight Night 40, takes place May 10 at Cincinnati’s U.S. Bank Arena. The main card is expected to air on FOX Sports 1 following prelims on UFC Fight Pass. A headliner hasn’t been announced.
Wineland vs. Eduardo will likely be part of the main card.
Wineland recently rebounded from a TKO loss to then-interim champ Renan Barao with a second-round TKO victory over Yves Jabouin. The 29-year-old also picked up a knockout victory over Scott Jorgensen and a split-decision win (in a “Fight of the Night†performance) over Brad Pickett during his recent 3-1 run.
Eduardo, meanwhile, most recently rebounded from a UFC-debut loss to Raphael Assuncao with a decision victory over Jeff Curran at UFC on FUEL TV 3. The 35-year-old Brazilian now returns from a two-year injury layoff and looks to build on his current 12-1 run. Despite solid victories over the likes of Paulo Dantas (24-9-1) and Donald Sanchez (29-13), many of the wins came on Brazil’s regional circuit.
The latest UFC Fight Night in Cincinnati card includes:

Ed Herman vs. Rafael Natal
Soa Palelei vs. Ruan Potts
Manny Gamburyan vs. Nik Lentz
