Most would probably say this post belongs in the ECW discussion thread, but it honestly doesn't. ECW was an experiment when Vince first made it a weekly show and put in his 'new vision' to play but it turned out to be the third brand for the WWE that wouldn't run for two weeks instead it would run for two years and continue it's weekly broadcasting. The original ECW had a grunge, underground look to it. Paul Heymen or however his name is spelled , hosted the program in front of a banner with the initials "ECW". The show had no fireworks or pyrotechnic displays when it hit television screens. Vince McMahon used this same ECW and made it a show that would be seen throughout the world, even I watch ECW here in the Middle East.

Vince McMahon put the glossy look to ECW, not such a good decision. I would want a classic ECW insane hardcore match as well but the formula is not something that will be solved overnight. :disgust: If they are going to regain some of the ECW glory, they will need to overcome big problems, lawyers/ lawsuits and adult communities complaining about the violence. I believe the new ECW is supposed to be a nice family show  and to bring back the insanity they would need a lot of determination and Vince could care less on what happens to ECW in the next five years because he has a strong financial back and has no interest in ECW whatsoever the case maybe. :disgust1: WWE has lost all the original ECW fans as well, and the fans were the entire atmosphere of the show, they were the backbone of ECW and without them, ECW is nothing. Looking at the current state of ECW, I wouldn't be surprised to hear the news that ECW is shut down. What if the WWE changed the direction right now? If they made ECW the actual "ECW" and if they captured the old fans. Would it be any better than this ECW? Would it be worse than this? Your thoughts?

Just because its wrestlers is filled with rookies it doesn't mean it is in a bad state. In fact, for a long long time, ECW was more watchable than Raw (specially on the build up to Cyber Sunday).

ECW is stable in its rating, getting 1.1 - 1.4, and has just signed a long contract with Sci Fi TV, so I would be pretty surprised if it is shut down.

Besides, it's pretty obvious that the brand is only name ECW to hold on to the fame the brand could have. It has nothing to do with the old product.

I am not entirerly sure if this is towards the topic discussion but I just want to point out my thoughts on it being called ECW and has nothing to do with ECW itself.

I think if it was designed to just become a rookie brand for people to start off like Punk or Morrison and from there move up into Raw or Smackdown, I have no problem with that but instead of hiring new things new name and copy right laws for ECW when it started why didn't they just hire a few more camera man save themselves some time and put OVW or FCW on telivision on Sci Fi they do the same thing overall but ECW is just on tv?

It's just a televised developmental territory. I don't want ECW to shut down, it's pretty decent. I just don't want it to be called ECW, because it's not ECW.

Yaaaaaawn.... This is getting tedious... Can there not just be a stickied "what SHOULD be done with ECW" thread?

P-l-l-l-l-l-l-e-a-s-e understand these 3 things:

1. ECW will not become hardcore again.
2. ECW is a televised developmental fed which a) get's the guys used to working on TV b) get's the WWE viewers tuned into the new guys.
3. It's as good as, if not better than, any TV show broadcast by TNA or WWE today when specifically considering the WRESTLING per minute ratio.

You guys didn't obviously understand what I was trying to ask;

. What if the WWE changed the direction right now? If they made ECW the actual "ECW" and if they captured the old fans. Would it be any better than this ECW? Would it be worse than this? Your thoughts?

Quoted for emphasis.

Which is why I want the name changed. It's not ECW if it's not hardcore. I'm not saying ECW is all hardcore matches and shit but it's certainly built the reputation of hardcore.

In your opinion. But if to you; the ratings don't matter. That's implying that they are alright so many people disagree with you.

And by the way, awesome first post.

Seriously... get over it... How many old school wrestling fans do you think are still grumbling about EASTERN championship wrestling changing it's name and putting on loads of crappy hardcore matches with little to no psychology?

^^ It doesn't matter that much to me, I'm just saying it's doing it's job. I can't ask any more of it. If I could have one thing though it'd be that.

ECW is the most watchable of the shows tbh. It's also a way of testing guys I guess. You make the move up from FCW to ECW, and they see if you can cope with the pressure of being on worldwide TV. It's great to have a brand like that where success stories such as CM Punk and Kofi Kingston have been brought up with ECW and then moved along to bigger and better things.

I don't get the big deal about the name, in the end, it's just a name. Really, if you want to believe so, the REAL ECW ended in 2001. But in reality, I know this is hard to cope with, but Vince OWNS ECW. He OWNS everything to do with it, so he can do what he wants with it. Just like he could have made a show called Nitro or Thunder.

Yeah, sorry, i'm aiming a bit more generally with my replys than they may suggest.... I'm just tired of all the whinging about what ECW is or isn't, should or shouldn't be.

Ultimately, peeps AREN'T gonna get what they want (i.e. Heyman's ECW circa '96) and even if Vince hadn't ressurected the name in order to get his newest brand over then the fans STILL wouldn't.

Time to move on. >>>>>>

It just annoys me how he's taken a company and changed it into something it's legacy isn't if you see what I'm saying. But yeah, move on...
