EA’s E3 Press Conference has just ended, so here’s a quick summary of all the goings-on.

It was mostly the usual suspects on show, with some rather tasty gameplay footage from Crysis 3, Medal of Honor: Warfighter, and Dead Space 3, with the latter showing off the previously leaked co-op mode. There was also a fair bit of truly spectacular footage from Criterion’s forthcoming Need for Speed: Most Wanted on display (complete with release date), and details on the annual updates to the Madden and Fifa franchises.

Perhaps the biggest surprise was the revelation that, in the wake of THQ’s financial issues, EA has acquired the UFC license. No word on what the first game making use of this will be, but I doubt it’ll be long before EA puts that particularly lucrative brand to work.

There was also some talk about forthcoming content for Star Wars: The Old Republic – including mention that the first 15 levels of the game will be free to everyone in July – and a notice that Battlefield 3 Premium is actually available now.

Oh, and we shouldn’t forget about the announcement of Facebook game SimCity Social. Or maybe we should.

Big coup by EA to acquire the UFC license, bring the MMA comapny under their banner of sports titles. Expect the first yearly title next year IMO.

Great move by EA to get the UFC license, hopefully they produce a good UFC game that is worth buying.

You say that as if the UFC Undisputed series hasn't been awesome, Trent. I love the UFC games that have been made under THQ the past 3 years, personally. I can't see how EA Sports will possibly improve it, considering Madden and their other sports games have turned to shit since about 2007. The only thing I think EA can contribute is a better soundtrack, and that's about it.

I will admit that I liked WCW Backstage Assault on the Nintendo 64 that was made by Electronic Arts as well as the Def Jam series under EA Sports BIG, but those games were made when EA, and more specifically EA Sports... didn't suck. Not much faith from my end. Especially since I'm such a huge fan of the THQ games. They've been fantastic.

UFC Undisputed was a great series, however I personally think that EA would make a better version. I could be proven wrong though.

EA will certainly have the better resources to shift copies than THQ. The game may take a few years to fine tune but it'll likely sell a lot more.
