Quick show of hands: Who enjoyed seeing Dwayne “The Rock†Johnson star as everyone’s favorite anonymous space marine tasked with eliminating the forces of Hell in that Doom movie a few years back? Well, your reaction to this story will depend largely on how you answered that question.

According to the MTV Movies Blog, the screenwriter of the Gears of War adaptation that "looks incredibly good," Chris Morgan, said that he envisions the game’s star, Marcus Fenix, being played by a Johnson-esque actor. In other words, a sensitive, stoic, believable badass, capable of pulling off the one-liners while always resonating genuine humanity. They obviously don’t have my number, because this part would have been cast a while ago. Arggh!!! (Shotgun blast. Weeping). And…scene.

Seriously though, that’s a pretty tall order. Then again, I guess it’s good to see that the people working on the film seem determined to make the adaptation worthy of the franchise (and the price of a ticket). Not that Johnson is some profoundly compelling choice, but at least Morgan desires some depth in his thuggish brutes.

Dude I actually think this would be pretty bad ass The Rock just doesn't seem white enought to play Marcus, obviously not being racist but Marcus is like light skined. Rock is not obviously.

Marcus is white, he's not light skin lol. Dwayne is light skin, he just not white lol. Movies adapted from novels, TV and any other media always make changes with the storyline and sometimes the race of some of the characters.

Dwayne playing Dom makes more sense but his last four movies he was the lead, so if he signs on then we might have to deal with Marcus being black.

Thing is they always say Marcus is lead but it seems like Dom gets just as much attention they kinda share the light so I think your right Dwayne as Dom would make more sence.

OMFG! Here's how I want it:

The Rock - Marcus
Freddy Rodriguez - Dom
Denzel Washington or Jamie Fox or Michael Clark Duncan - Cole
Christian Bale - Baird
Anya - Charlize Theron!

The guy who does the voice of Coal look exactly like Coal I wswear so he'd be perfect for the role and there is only one good choice for Dom now that I think about it. Jason Statham!

I sure as hell couldn't Dwayne as Marcus, Nino already summed it up with Marcus being light skinned and Rock being dark skinned.

And besides didn't Rock star as the lead character in that horrible ass Doom movie not too long ago? It sucked so bad for the video game series.

@wordlife

Denzel in supporting cast? That'll happen when Eminem gets a program on PBS, Rasheed Wallace goes a season w/out any technicals and Jeff Hardy does anti-drug commercials as champion.

Statham would make a better Marcus, Mr Eko from Lost would make a good Cole.

Holy shit you guys have some shitty casts, lol. If The Rock or Jason Statham are in this I will full on boycott it. Jamie Foxx is only decent with serious movies, and Denzel only does serious movies as well. Plus you don't want everyone falling asleep during the movie....Denzel is monotonous. I will agree though that Mighty Rasta should reprise as Cole.
