Double down or go back to basics....

With the impending..."war" with TNA starting on the 4th, Raw has an interesting choice. Should they stay the course, even double down on what they've been doing in terms of the guest host thing, or should they go back to basics, and keep it more about wrestling?

I think if they do want to go the "celeb" route, they need to double down and make it huge. Tiger Woods or a re-animated Heath Ledger come to mind as the blockbuster choices.

I somehow get the feeling that we all my be underestimating TNA at this point and if WWE isn't careful they could stand to have their entire unused and unhappy mid card ripped right out from underneath them.

I think bottom line, WWE need to step up their game tremendously because the product has been utterly pitiful lately. If not for the sake of competing with TNA then just for themselves.

Celebrity stuff treads a fine line. See: Rosie O Donnell and Donald Trump. Doing something with Heath Ledger is too risky. Stuff offends people these days. TNA want to gain and maintain viewers, not lose more of them on their biggest night. Doing something with a celebrity would be idiotic.

the controversy might help WWE. imagine how much press they would get if someone like Tiger Woods or Kanye had the shame to host Raw. look at the Shaq thing and compare it to the other athletes who've hosted Raw. if they could supplement the famewhoring with wrestling, they would be fine. it's not even that hard, just start building for the Rumble and Wrestlemania.

but WWE has to look good regardless of what TNA does/doesn't do. if they make a mistake, there could be a big jump to TNA. (I'm thinking way too much in American History. damn.)

"WAR" between them will only result in one thing, better product due to competition. Which is all what we need and care about.

I think Smackdown and ECW aren't that bad...then again, they are not going to be the ones in the war. Raw needs a revamp. God knows WWE can get it right, there have been times this year when they made a good work (before the Bash...even if they didn't even build for the damn PPV) and they even made some can't miss shows (the build up for WM), but the rest has been pretty lame, getting to the "I can't believe those guys are actually doing this" point this past Monday.

Agreed... and plus, remember, the show is STILL PG. If you bring in dead celebs, that's not so PG anymore is it?

God forbid the WWE loses Shelton Benjamin and Carlito.

If they lost Randy Orton, they could get somebody to fill his place.

But when you lose Shelton, Carlito, MVP, Swagger, Bourne, Christian and all these other guys, it leaves a gap wider than any main eventer's departure could cause.
