It looks like Donald Glover will be engaging in some extracurricular work outside of Greendale Community College. The Community star, who plays former high school quarterback-turned-air conditioning repair annex recruit Troy Barnes, is developing a new show for NBC with 30 Rock co-executive producer Matt Hubbard.

The new sitcom is being developed as a starring vehicle for Glover. NBC is said to be committed to the project, and is close to sealing a deal for a put pilot (with a large penalty fee if it doesn't move forward) for the show, which would be loosely based on Glover's life.

But have no fear, fans of "Troy and Abed in the Morning": Glover is still committed to a fourth season of Community, and any new project would be considered "in second position." That's good enough news to break out the "no-no juice."

Glover worked as a writer on 30 Rock along with Hubbard before moving in front of the camera. Besides Community, the star headlined the Comedy Central stand-up special Donald Glover: Weirdo and was also a writer and cast member on the indie movie Mystery Team. Additionally, the actor has cultivated a hip-hop career with his alter ego Childish Gambino.

NBC has also been high on Hubbard, who won the Emmy Award in 2009 for outstanding comedy writing (for 30 Rock) and was nominated again in 2010 and 2011. His credits also include Ed.

Peter Traugott and Rachel Kaplan are also executive producers on the Glover comedy project. Universal Television is the studio behind the project. The show is seen as a big get for NBC, particularly given Hubbard's and Glover's pedigree.

Community returns to NBC on Friday, October 19, at 8:30/7:30c; while the final season of 30 Rock kicks off on Thursday, October 4, at 8/7c

Very excited by this news, huge Donald Glover (and Childish Gambino) fan. I am glad that this potential show won't impact on his spot in Community as he is one of if not the best character. I will be all over this show if it is ever made. Pretty sweet deal that he has with the put pilot in that he will be paid a large fee even if it doesn't go to air. Wonder if this show can stop the rot with NBC. They have so many good shows, especially comedies, yet the whole network is toxic at the moment and drags everything down.

Any other Donald Glover fans here?
