Donald Cerrone vs. Jim Miller headlines UFC Fight Night 45 in New Jersey
Both Donald Cerrone and Jim Miller expressed interest in a big-name opponent for their next appearance. They found it in each other.
UFC officials announced early Friday morning that Cerrone and Miller will meet in a five-round lightweight matchup to headlines UFC Fight 45, which takes place July 16 at Atlantic City’s Revel Casino Hotel.
The evening’s main card airs on FOX Sports 1 following prelims that stream on UFC Fight Pass.
With Cerrone currently sitting at No. 12 in the latest USA TODAY Sports/MMAjunkie MMA lightweight rankings and Miller checking in just behind at No. 13, the matchup will likely see one of the two fighters make a move into the top-10.
Cerrone (23-6 MMA, 10-3 UFC), who’s made it clear he wants to rack up six fights in 2014, will make his third appearance in the year thus far. The first two have gone in his favor, as he earned a “Performance of the Night†bonus with an April win over Edson Barboza and a “Knockout of the Night†bonus with a January stoppage of Adriano Martins.
Meanwhile, Miller fought just one week ago, where he scored a first-round technical submission win over Yancy Medeiros. It was the New Jersey native’s third consecutive official win with his April 2013 loss to Pat Healy overturned to a no contest when his opponent failed his post-fight drug screen.
