For non-Americans, DOMA (Defense of Marriage Act) was a United States federal law signed by Bill Clinton in 1996 that allowed states to refuse to recognize same-sex marriages as straight marriages. Basically, it would ultimately stop gays/lesbians/etc. from having the same privileges married couples have, for example, not allowing to file taxes as a couple and requiring individual tax returns, prevents them from ever using the law protecting married couples from testifying against the other and the list goes on. The Supreme Court just ruled this act as unconstitutional about a few days ago.

I just went on Youtube and saw their homepage and it literally brought a tear to my eye.

They've posted multiple videos about supporting homosexuals, such as videos of guys coming out to their families and other things like that and it's just very heartwarming. I'm extremely thankful for this act being abolished. It almost makes me proud to be an American... almost. :haha:

One more battle won for human rights, but still we are so far behind. I guess we can rest on this victory for the moment.

I'm glad america is starting to give basic right to the LGBT community. It's almost enough to make my frozen heart melt.

Thought DOMA stood for "Dat Official Magnificent Ass" :haha:

Kidding aside... I am not surprised. I bet same sex marriage will be legal in all states in another 2 years. They should have the right to claim each other financially and on health/life insurance and this makes that possible.

This is certainly a step in the right direction. Hopefully the governments on the state level will follow this example and start to allow the LGBT community to get married and have equal rights to straight couples as well.

Good step to make. Marked for the tags by the way.

There is still a long way to go though. Many laws in capitalist countries are becoming seriously outdated and need immediate change. There is so much wrong with politics right now, but at least they are seemingly putting normality ahead of religious-extremists.
