I had this discussion in another forum and I thought why not see what you all think of the situation.

So pretty much 90%+ of the Wrestling fans around the world know that Triple H is married to Stephanie McMahon. That is all well and good but now that Triple H is helping the McMahons and sticking up for them against Randy Orton is he breaking kayfabe?

Because Stephanie and Triple H apparently hate each other in the storyline / WWE world and they were married at one point but are now divorced as of 2001 (I think) And it ended with a harsh ceremony with a pedigree on Vince. If I recall correctly but either way according to the WWE they are no longer together if you follow the stories.

When Triple H suddenly came running down to help them was that breaking kayfabe coming into the fine line of kayfabe and real life thing? Cause when I first saw Triple H run down on Raw a couple of weeks ago after Stephanie was RKO'd I thought to myself that and am not quite sure if they well screwed it up with Kayfabe.

What do you guys think?

Not really. This sort of stuff happens all the time, when someone turns face and befriends someone they hated like 3 months earlier. In this case, like most, they probably won't explain why it happened. They could easily say that they reconciled and privately remarried or something.

This just adds more realism to the storyline. Triple H, the McMahons, and Orton are still all in character. Breaking kayfabe would be Triple H and Orton admitting they are friends and that the RKO really doesn't hurt so Steph is okay. Or Triple H and Orton hugging after their match at Mania then double teaming Steph on live TV.

Now to think about it I guess you are right on that part like for example how RVD and Kane were tag team partners at one point and were also enemys at another where kane was going to burn RVD alive.

But still I guess it felt weird as in the WWE Soap Opera HHH and Steph are divorced and it was like there was no reasoning behing him running down and helping her and the McMahons. I mean after years of Triple H being against them in DX even.

Well, didn't he break kayfabe during his SD sit down with JR. He said something along the lines of "..... but Orton, you put your hands on my wife...." when they were indeed divorced on tv. So him admitting they were still married although in WWE land, they were divorced, and it was televised.

I know it has the realism in the storyline, but still broke kayfabe.

That's what I was trying to get at ^; not like it is a bad thing I mean it makes the feud interesting even but I thought it was like breaking Kayfabe as history tells us different between TripleH and McMahons .

Yea, I see what your saying. To me, its just another case of the WWE thinkiing its fans don't remember anything that happened over three months ago. They definitely could have explained that they remarried or something, but the WWE thinks we are easily confused.

I guess it is somewhat a break in kayfabe, but it doesn't really hurt the storyline. Its a close call. No one really broke character. We just got a storyline that really wasn't explained. If Triple H was currently fueding with Steph, and Triple H got legit hurt during a match and Steph rushed to his side that would be a blatant break.

However, we are in an era where kayfabe has been thrown out the window. The only wrestler who rarely breaks from character is the Undertaker. But even he broke character during the Flair retirement ceremony.

He did break kayfabe to some extent and many 'dumb' fans who would have been watching WWE for years must be confused on why Triple H defended Stephanie McMahon, who is apparently divorced with him and why Triple H supported her father, against who he had such a personal grudge back in the D-Generation X days.

Obviously, this isn't hurting anything, it's creating confusion which eventually creates excitement/ thrill for all fans. They think 'why it's all happening!?!'. And that my friend, gets viewers, smart strategy imo.

To be honest, it didn't really worry me that much. Kayfabe has been ripped open like a fireplace anyway over the years. This just makes things easier to think about really. Like you said, everyone who knows wrestling knows that Paul and Stephanie are a real-life item. Anytime the McMahons and Triple H have interacted since the on-screen divorce, there have been hints. Like with the whole 'Triple H knows who the father is' when Stephanie giving birth was brought into the storyline as the reason for both Triple H and Vince's absense on TV during the DX vs McMahon/Big Show/Spirit Squad feud.

Normally in this case, you're right. But as Evil Austin said in his first post 90% of the wrestling world already knew they were really married. And the ones that didn't might have been too young to remember all of that stuff from before.

I wouldn't call this breaking kayfabe, I would call this dropping an obvious flaw.

It's alright...because apparently MacMahon still has another son floating around somewhere in the roster, Edge and Vicky's marriage was magically reconciled, Kane's vocal chords healed themselves....among many other things.

At least we got the old grunting "Orton'ah....I'm gooooonna brrrrreak your neck'ah!" back...lol

I dont mind really. Kayfabe has been broken thousands upon thousands of times. This current angle adds to the realism imo it makes a compelling storyline. Hell my 16 year old sister is into what the hell is going on with the Orton/HHH saga aha aha

All HHH had to do was refer to Steph as "the mother of my children" (rather than his "wife") and we needn't be having this conversation now.

I guess technically you could say he did, but it's not big deal. In real life we know they've been married forever, but in storylines, they could've just been married for a few months. The fact that pretty much everyone, even non internet wrestling fans, know they're married makes it much easier to break kayfabe with it.
But it's not like he said "I, Paul levesque, am married to the real life Stephanie McMahon". So it's more like they're just bringing it into the storyline, and for allw e know (storyline wise), they coul;d've just been married. Or they may explain it to say they've been keeping it a secret... I dunno, it's not really a problem, they're just having their characters married in the show, in addition to real life.

^^^lol its possible.

But I believe that they brought this into play because realistically that is the only way that you could get HHH into the feud. I had a feeling that they were going to have a HHH/RKO feud for Wrestlemania bt I had no freakin' clue it would end up like this. This is the only way the feud makes sense.
