It was a pretty decent promo and a good move giving Kofi the belt. With MVP most likely moving up the card and being done with the mid card belt, that leaves Kofi as pretty much the lone face with guys like Regal, Matt Hardy and probably the Miz there to chase him for it, so it makes sense to have the face hold the belt. So if they actually decide to keep making the U.S. belt look like it matters for a while, I could see a decent length run against some of those guys I mentioned, which should lead to some pretty good stuff on Raw.
I think the bigger story of the match was MVP. I have been hesitant to say that he will be in the world title hunt soon like many people have speculated, but now I am pretty much convinced he will be soon. They made him look great in defeat. They played up how it was an upset win making MVP still look strong, he lost by a roll up which made it look like a fluke loss for MVP, and handing the belt over just added to his solid face character.
Of everyone on the Raw roster, the one guy that I think will benefit from Mr. Kennedy's release the most is MVP. It was fairly obvious that the company was high on both guys, despite Kennedy's injuries. With both of them now playing face characters and with an already crowded main even scene on Raw which is made up of mostly faces, it would have been a lot more difficult for MVP to break through if he had another up and coming face to compete with in Mr. Kennedy. Now with the release of Kennedy, MVP is the lone up and coming face on Raw with the potential to break through to the main event, meaning he will get a lot more focus and an even better push than he would if Kennedy were still around. His loss on Monday was the start of a big push imo.
