VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. -- A Deltona High School student was tased in front of his classmates inside a cafeteria, investigators said on Thursday. Deputies said the Pine Ridge High School student was dealing drugs on campus.

Witnesses said the deputy had to use the Taser on the student twice.

The 18-year-old was on the ground with the Taser pointed at his back.

"He was just lying there, but shaking like right there on the floor. It looked like he was having a seizure," said witness Leandrew Serrano.

Serrano and a crowd of other students were in between classes when their school courtyard turned into chaos. Deputies said it started in the cafeteria when the student fought back as they tried to arrest him.

An officer called deputies for backup when the teenager became violent during questioning, deputies said. The deputy then used a Taser to subdue him.

"They Tasered him. He went like this and pulled it off. The second one, they got him and he just fell and they were holding it, Tasing him," said Serrano.

The school resource deputy said he found out about the student when another 11th-grader was caught with marijuana. She reported the person from whom she said she got the drugs, and that's when at least two deputies confronted the teen.

"I don't know how to explain it, but it's like they're taking it to a different level where they shouldn't," Serrano said.

When deputies arrested the student on allegations of dealing drugs, they said they found four small bags of marijuana on him. A school official told WFTV that's the worst offense.

WFTV learned that the student, whose name has not been released, was suspended, but it will be up to the school board whether he gets expelled.

The sheriff's office is investigating.

Both of the students caught with drugs face several criminal charges and at least suspension from school, said investigators.
