This thread is about how far WWE'S commentary has fallen over the years.
We used to Have classic moments not just due to the wrestling but commentary as well.

We had classic moments like "Good Gawd it killed Him!" and "He slammed 'em." To bullshitty moments now.

When the build up Finn's Demon King. You hear shitty commentary from Michael Cole saying "It's the alter ego of Finn Balor where he kicks it up a notch" . Also say stupid stuff like "The Big Dog taking over his Yard"

I am sitting here like "You can't do better than that?" Jim Ross, Lawler, Gorilla Monsoon, etc. Are like Platinum compared to these bastards now.

Only person I like and tolerate is Coach.

What do you think on this shitty Commentary era we are in?

Jim Ross is my favorite. I think that Cole and King were decent. Now though... Ehh. I honestly don't like what they do now.

Yeah, the commentaries nowadays just suck. Bobby and Gorilla or Gorilla and Jesse were the best in WWE w/h Cornette and Ross being second.

Eh they haven't had a really good commentator since Jim Ross.. Michael Cole is the best they have now, which is sad.

Honestly...when I watch any main roster matches...I just listen
to the entrances & crowd reactions to them, the ring introductions
(Again just to gauge crowd reactions) and then I turn the volume
way down...or just mute it.

The WWE main roster is pretty bad across the board but it is cool
to see Renee Young getting a go. I will admit I do like the commentary
in NXT...mainly because it feels more personal & real...unlike the
main roster where Vince McMahon uses them like hand puppets
& flesh speakers for the companies own agenda & narrative.

Granted I don't think much of the commentary on Impact either...

ALL IN was solid.

Why doesn't WWE add Steve Corino? Didn't they sign him for that?

Michael Cole being the best they can offer today makes me want to breakdown in sadness and "No!".

We have Great Superstars and potentially Great Superstars, and for them to be commentated by Cole and the rest of those commentators is a Cluster - F*ck.

No see you're wrong.

They wouldn't have to "empty out the old folks home" if they pushed
the current talent they have...but Vince is so focused on getting the
Plank of Wood over that he has to trot out the old guys to get some
kind of positive reaction & sell tickets.

If Roman Reigns was as big of a draw & as popular as the WWE want
us to believe...the company wouldn't need to get the old men out of bed.

I'm pretty sure the problem with commentary lies less with the people they get to do it and more with the three person format alongside Vince McMahon's constant instructions throughout the night. Granted on the latter, I'm going based off what I heard but I remembering reading a lot of people citing Michael Cole did a great job on the UK tournament thing I didn't watch last year, and that event notably didn't have Vince McMahon as his ear-piece. And for the former, well I think it's obvious to anyone who's listened to a single match that it doesn't work out well. Two people should be the max, there's too many voices competing otherwise, and it's much harder to establish a personal dynamic that fans can connect with. I think King is an abysmal commentator, but I'd still take him and JR as a pairing than the three-person teams that got now because JR and King have a more personable dynamic, giving the commentary and Raw itself, it's own distinct flavour. If Raw & Smackdown Live both still have Corey Graves, then well, there goes any unique flavour the shows could've had between themselves, helping to make the commentary feel sterile across the board.

This is actual why Booker T was my favourite commentator during his last tenure in the role, because he'd say some inane BS with absolute conviction, which lead to some pretty entertaining moments. Perhaps not great in terms of in-ring commentary but certainly made a stronger dynamic when you had Corey Graves or Michael Cole try to explain to Booker that what he said made no sense while Booker sticks to his guns. Moments like that is what keeps the commentary from feeling manufactured, which it almost certainly does every-time I've listened to it recently, especially Michael Cole's "Oh My!" moments.
