Introduction & Continued History Page
The man in the picture above - his name is Robert Pera. If you aren't a fan of the NBA, then it isn't surprising that you haven't heard of him. [I knew I hadn't before I put together this backstory]. Anyway, Pera is the owner of the Memphis Grizzlies and an extremely rich man - and when I say rich I mean he is a legitimate billionaire and is also the youngest owner of an NBA team in North America. So - putting it bluntly he has a lot of money and also seems to very good at spending it. Well in this cooked up reality, Robert Pera has decided that he wants to go down the same road as other young enterprising businessmen have gone by investing some money in the world of professional wrestling.
Being based in Memphis - his first considering was to bring a previous promotion from the city back to life and at one point bringing back the Continental Wrestling Association had been a plan on the drawing board, but it was later decided that he didn't want to be seen as someone trying to dig up the past. However, Pera was aware that simply creating a brand and an identity for a wrestling company was an extremely difficult task. So he scoured the internet until he found a company he felt he could work - a company that had previously been based in the United Kingdom from 2016-2019 - having been rebranded halfway through it life before finally becoming defunct. Pera felt that the intellectual property associated with this promotion would be incredibly marketable in the US - and also with his financial backing had the potential to become a global brand if it was nurtured properly. And he would reveal the new promotion at Defiant Wrestling.
Pera would announce that Defiant would work out of Memphis to begin with - with the home location for the location being the Memphis Pyramid with an agreement having being made with its current owners Bass Pro Shops. Pera would make it clear that to begin with, Defiant would host monthly show with the first show booked to take place on the first weekend of April. It would be made clear - that a press conference would be held with further details about this premier show of the new promotion. At the first press conference a singles match would be booked between Bu Ku Dao and Eli Isom, whilst CMLL's Magnus and Star, Jr. were set to team up against The Colony (Worker Ant II & Fire Ant) with the biggest news being the announcement that Johnny Swinger would contest for the Defiant Internet Championship against a yet to be found opponent at the April event.
