PITTSBURGH -- Authorities said the decomposing body of a man was found on the porch of a home in Pittsburgh's Garfield neighborhood. The Allegheny County medical examiner's office said the body was so badly decomposed that investigators could not immediately tell if it was male or female. The body was spotted Sunday on the porch of an abandoned home along Penn Avenue. It was blocked from view by furniture, police said."For the past two weeks me and my co-worker would come outside and it's been this horrific smell that something's been dead," said Tess Smesch, who works next door.
Investigators believe the man was in his 50s or 60s."Based on the body, we determined certain characteristics: black male, fifth or sixth decade of life, no teeth so no dental records. ID wouldn’t be possible but we do have a tentative identification based on a fingerprint analysis," said Allegheny County Medical Examiner Dr. Karl Williams. An autopsy was set for Monday.
