Danny McBride Wants To Be A Clown
A remake of a Danish comedy...
Source: Deadline

Like ‘em or loathe ‘em, there’s no disputing that the Hangover films have been wildly successful at the box office. It’s no surprise that Warner Bros. is attempting to squeeze at least one more entry out of Todd Phillips’ franchise, and the idea that it might be looking for similar potential cash cows also comes as little shock. Possibly the most intriguing prospect has now cropped up, with the studio grabbing the remake rights to Danish TV comedy-turned-movie Klovn and setting it up as a project for Danny McBride.

McBride, who last graced the screen in 30 Minutes Or Less (plus the latest season of HBO comedy Eastbound And Down) is set to write the script and star in a movie adaption of the concept called Clown (literal translation ahoy!)

Casper Christensen and Frank Hvam created the comedy series and have been co-stars in it since 2005. A film version followed in 2010, which will provide the source material for the remake.

The story finds main characters Casper and Frank (though the names will likely be changed for the remake) heading out on a canoe trip planned as a Hangover-style celebration of debauchery and booze. But then one of the men discovers his girlfriend is pregnant and doesn’t want her to keep the baby. Despite this, she wants him to prove he could be a worthy father, and so he agrees to take her 13-year--old son on the trip, without mentioning that they’ll still be trying to do every wild thing they planned.

Phillips is also at work behind the scenes, though he’s only planning to produce for now.
