According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, current world heavyweight champion Daniel Bryan has a potential blockbuster feud on the horizon.

Since taking The Big Show by surprise at WWE TLC 2011, the plucky underdog has learned to become a cunning opportunist.

What this new wrinkle means for the long-term implications of his character is yet to be written.

However, what is on the brink of being decided is a possible feud between Bryan and John Cena—as discussed in a recent meeting between members of the WWE creative team.

Granted, such a pairing is unlikely to happen in the foreseeable future, at least until after WrestleMania 28.

At the moment, Cena is in the midst of a storyline with the resurgent Kane that will either culminate at the 2012 Royal Rumble or, at the latest, Elimination Chamber 2012.

Once that runs its natural course, the leader of the "CeNation" will have The Rock to deal with in what will be the most anticipated bout in years.

That leaves late spring/summer as a possible time frame for a Cena-Bryan feud.
Looking ahead, there are many questions to ponder. For instance, will either man be a world title holder? More importantly, who will be the face and heel in their dispute?

A heel Cena against a face Bryan—with the latter overcoming the odds—can cement a new star by making it clear the WWE landscape has changed forever.

On the other hand, a face Cena head-to-head with a heel Bryan will not only be difficult to sell, but will ultimately undermine the submission specialist's credibility.

It's incumbent upon the WWE to stay its current course, stem the tide of status-quo defenders and be unafraid to take genuine risks.
