The UFC is committed to doing big fights on the biggest stages including more stadium shows in the next year.

While their plans to host a soccer stadium show in Brazil for UFC 147 fell by the wayside after a United Nations conference interfered with their ability to take over an 80,000 seat venue, the UFC isn’t giving up on huge shows in huge venues.

As a matter of fact, if things work out the way they are hoping, January 2013 could bring one of the biggest cards in UFC history into play.

According to UFC President Dana White, they are already looking into a major venue and show to kick off the New Year, and while details are sketchy at this time the fact that the promotion is even thinking that far ahead means something monstrous could be in the works.

“We’re talking about doing some big fights, if things work out the way they could, we’d end up doing a big fight probably in January,†White said on Thursday.

“If that fight happens, we’re looking at three venues – obviously Las Vegas is always a venue, Dallas, Texas Stadium, and Toronto again.â€

The UFC has long toyed with going to Dallas, Tex and bringing a show to the massive Cowboys Stadium. The stadium serves as the home to the Dallas Cowboys and is built to hold over 110,000 people at full capacity.

While White wouldn’t reveal what fight they are potentially looking at for the January card, there would seemingly only be a few names that would attract the kind of numbers needed to fill a stadium of that size.

UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre comes to mind first and foremost, but there are a few other possibilities as well. Whoever it is, White made it sound like this ambitious endeavore could be one of the biggest UFC shows ever.

“If things go the way that they could go, by January we’re already talking about Dallas, Texas stadium,†said White.

Now it’s just a matter of ‘wait and see’ if the UFC can pull off this mega-show teased for January 2013

Really curious as to the fight they're working on for this. :hm:

Jon Jones vs Anderson Silva
Anderson Silva vs GSP
Jon Jones vs JDS
Fedor vs Couture

Not sure what other 'dream fights' can be done to fill a stadium that big.

I was leaning towards Jones/JDS. They've been talking about Jones moving up to HW for a while now so i cold see that fight actually happening.

Diaz/GSP is the one that springs to mind firstly.

I don't see any of the big players moving weight tbh, still though there's a ton of fights.

GSP/Diaz: GSP beats Condit in October ready for the Diaz match by January

Fedor coming in and fighting any of the top HW, may not be the best fight but on paper would put asses in the seats.

Melendes come to the UFC and takes on Aldo or even Frankie.

Prob more that I'm missing but those seem big and somewhat realistic.

Fedor coming to UFC is about as likely as GSP facing Anderson Silva.

Not bloody likely.

Maybe something like a 'Night Of Champions' where every main card fight is for a title, not really realistic though.

GSP headlining
Jon Jones in some easy fight against some scrub they dug up in the 205 division, maybe King Mo
Aldo v who cares
Cruz vs who cares
Flyweight title fight

Seems plausible.

^That is similar to what I am thinking. I don't think that any one champion could fill a stadium this big so they will need to get at least two or three of them on the same card. A night of champions event would be massive and should be able to fill the stadium.

Since the card is supposed to be in January and GSP is scheduled to be back and fighting probably round November I highly doubt he'll get on that card.

I think the only realistic big fight would be Silva/Jones. Silva beat Chael, he doesn't have much left for the rest of the year cept for one more fight which is prob against Lombard. Jones has Hendo and IF he can beat Hendo then there is practically nobody left in LHW that can pose a decent threat and so if Jones fights in August, he can either fight again in October to have 3 fights this year and start off the year with the biggest fight to date.

GSP/Silva is the longest of long shots... but the fact is... it is still a shot.

Fedor showing up for a UFC fight? Yeah it wouldn't be main event but on the main card? That'd still be something they could hype up huge.

So yeah... prob Heavyweight title and Light Heavyweight title on the line alongside another big name cause this thing would have to sell huge.

Zuffa would be more than willing to sit out GSP for a few more months, to make a card that would draw.

If they were to fill a stadium, it would be a card similar to UFC100. And since Zuffa has a boner for GSP in Montreal, then they could feasibly get the Olympic stadium there.
